Good Morning, and God Bless
by John McLeod, from "Quiet...flows the love"
Good morning and God bless
On this most wonderful of days
God given, lit by sunlight
Shafting down in golden rays.
The heart sings out its wondrous joy
In choir with birdsong sweet,
And all one's love can employ
This beauteous day to greet.
Oh skies of azure
Blue as any skies could ever be,
How glad I am to meet this day
How well blessed to be me!

This is the first time I have visited this thread, but I have an original poem that I would like to share with some of you. Let me know what you think.
"What Have We Become"
There are so many nights,
I go to bed alone.
My son in the next room,
In our big empty home.
I cry myself to sleep,
thinking of him
to hold him again or see him
to love my best friend.
In the morning I wake
and try to begin,
I wake my boy up
and hug him again.
Sometimes we just hug,
sometimes we play games,
Sometimes I try to be Dad,
But it's just not the same.
It's hard being without him.
I know I'm not alone.
There are thousands of people
wanting their soldiers home.
This life that we live,
may seem strange and tough to believe,
But this life that I chose, is
The life God gave to me.
I try not to complain, because
I know some have not come home.
I pray that mine will,
I trust God's grace to show.
But even the strong
and brave military spouse
finds it hard to live their life,
without their beloved spouse.
There are games missed out on,
and most birthdays too.
There are first words and phrases
and friends old and new.
I know not to feel sorry for me
I am just here to do my part.
I am the wife of a soldier,
Who holds her love in her heart.
I've learned to fix problems
which abound in my home.
I can paint, cut lumber
and install a new phone.
I have wired light fixtures
hung curtains, fixed a broken down toy.
And occasionally I am called to be
a nurse for my boy.
But please don't pitty me.
I agreed to this life.
I took my vow, made a promise
and became a soldier's wife.
I knew all the risks,
but hoped they wouldn't come.
But I feel safer here having
him there protecting our home.
There are people out there who'll say
This war is wrong.
I don't have the time to argue,
I sing another song.
This is a great land,
where foreigners can come,
To try to make a better life,
For their families back home.
I welcome them and pray for them,
I ask God to help them out.
But I know that these same people
may draw a great deal of doubt.
There are people who in public
hold signs protesting this war
Saying "it's the wrong war or wrong time",
Well now they've gone too far.
No one ever "wants" war,
but when we run out of choices,
It is our duties as American's
to support our Armed Forces.
There is too much hostility
on each side of the debate.
There is screaming, violence, stealing,
And that's just in the United States.
What happened to civility,
What happened to national pride.
I thought 9-11 would bring this out,
but too many cowards now just hide.
Please, Please,
I beg all to hear,
I want my country back
from the people who want to spread fear.
I want to live happily
in the land that I love.
I want to be able to worship
The great God above.
I want to be free
to say how I feel about a point
without fearing retribution
from a kid with a joint.
I close with a prayer,
Dear God help us praise
that we are the Land of the Free
Because of the Brave.
