A mouse loose in a Somerset County house may have escaped injury early Tuesday morning, but a woman who lives there wasn't as fortunate.
State police at Somerset said 43-year-old Donald Eugene Rugg was attempting to shoot the rodent with a .22-caliber handgun inside the home he shares with 35-year-old Cathy Jo Harris, along Chicken Bone Road, in Lower Turkeyfoot Township, shortly after midnight.
As he fired the weapon, Harris reportedly walked into the path of the discharged round and was struck in the right arm with birdshot.

Beatchatoit. Check out post #50.
I find a quick foot or a stick works fine.
Also, traps set with peanut butter and handled with disposable surgical gloves work well, especially when washed between trappings.
As for rats - well, I've killed my share of them with a sharpe blow across the shoulder blades from a blunt heavy object.
I'll save my ammo for bears, and two-footed vermin.
Hmmmmm..... So which would I use if I wanted to shoot at bats?
Seven pumps and it works on roof squirrels out to 50 feet. Surprisingly accurate. You will have about two seconds to place your shot.
Geeze. Boy do I feel like a real Homer!

Verification: Lower Turkeyfoot Township
And I have also verified through Mapquest that, there is indeed a CHICKEN BONE RD, CONFLUENCE, PA, SOMERSET COUNTY, US (in Turkeyfoot Township.)
Strange, but TRUE!!!
LOL, we had one slip into our house one night. I was reading a Steven King novel in bed and looked up and there he was, circling over the bed. I pulled the covers over the Mrs. and told her to stay put. I then left the bedroom, closing the door behind me (didn't want the rascal out in the house proper).
I got a spare sheet and while standing on the water-bed, used the 'Matador' technique to entangle the bat in the sheet. I then rolled the sheet up and took him outside. What appeared to be a huge bat in the house looked like a mini-mouse when he fell out of the sheet in a fetal position.
Pretty guns, even when the bluing starts to wear. Mine came with both two cylinders, one each .22LR and .22WMR. The latter is more accurate, the former more economical.
If you look back at my posts, you will notice that I referred to it as ratshot. Thus missing the boat on your humor.
I'd appreciate a ping if you find anything surprising.
Or mebbe (Shootin') Ahrn City..
Yours is at least 8 years newer than mine. My Blackhawk, though, has a 9 mm cylinder.

It's a real place.
I imagine bats are hard to hit, as they fly mostly at night and visibility would be bad. Fast little buggers too.
So you'd suggest perhaps a sawed-off .22 pistol, and maybe tracer pellets?
Not sure this will pass the smell test
.22-caliber handgun ... struck in the right arm with birdshot.
Nope, doesn't pass the smell test.
See reply #107.
