Mtv Pre-election Stall????
Choose or lose ^ | Mtv Choose or Lose

Posted on 10/18/2004 9:35:43 PM PDT by Vortexsg

I said it earlier well over a week ago now that it's a bit ironic in todays world of electronic information and analysis that mtv's pre-election results have yet to be published(going on a week now). Makes one wonder why a liberal network would be stalling when Kerry is falling in the polls. Though I don't know it's outcome I can only conclude and hope that the pre-election of todays youth (my generation) are conservative, informed and plan to vote for Bush. Though I could careless what the results say whether they be true or *narrowed for accuracy* meaning conservatives have been eliminated I will be voting along with others (A 100 strong voting party) for Bush tomorrow in the early elections. I can hope nothing more than the media to be blind sided worrying about swing states when they should ahve concentrated on the youth because we equal out to be a hugh chunk of voters. Well enough for this rant just thought this should be said.

They should just be honest and admit that their whole 'choose or loose' and 'rock the vote' campaigns are just thinly-veiled voter drives for the Democrats.

I doubt it if they do many youth registration drives in rural white communities, NASCAR events, Southern suburbs, etc.

Its all about demographics, and from what I've seen they focus on registering people who are likely to vote Democratic.

Who cares, the NRA and the Churches take care of that for us. To me the interesting research is going to be what the turnout is from all of this. I am willing to be a pullizter prize would be for someone willing to track down the aftermath of the RTV, VoD and Michael Moore(on) Tour and compare the actual sign-ups to actual votes cast (minus RAT double voting) Will make for interesting reading.

Tom Freston, the head of MTV and heir apparent to the Viacom empire, is a textbook baby boomer Democrat. His anachronist hipster idea of politics is in the same mold as rolling stone, moveon.org etc. Music and politics don't mix, unless you're a porsche driving yuppie like Freston, who dictates the definition of cool to the unaware. This rock the vote schtick was already stale in the eighties.

My only point is that its insulting for MTV to claim its efforts are non-partisan. If it truly were then it would make an effort to be demographically balanced in the places it does registration drives.

I agree with your premises, but the MTV crowd is demographically predisposed to those areas and they are NOT going to go out of there way to "balance" the enrollment.
