I don't feel it, either. It's not a lost cause, by any stretch of the imagination, but it's not the same as it was before the debates.

When we had a festival in August, I joined about 20 other people in passing out Bush-Cheney stickers to the crowd. This was the week after the Dem convention, and before the Swift Boat stuff got national attention. We could not peel these stickers off fast enough! We got people signed up for yard sign locations and to help at Bush HQ as well.

Tonight, I did the same at our football game. Only two other people came out. None of the 12 people I called made it out there. We got maybe 200 people to take stickers-- and the visiting team is from an area even more Republican than ours. It was almost demoralizing. The most common comment I heard was "I called downtown and offered to volunteer/ asked for a yard sign and no one has ever called back." AND THIS IS OHIO!

I agree a lot of Pubbies have been depressed because of the less than stellar debates and the resulting decline in the polls. However, it seems the pollsters are starting to detect an uptick in W's numbers.

If this holds, and is not just a momentary blip, then GOP spirits will be restored and the lead, and our confidence, will grow further.

Good on you for donating your time. But cheer up. Momentum is a funny thing. It has to have time to build. The momentum really started building after the Rep convention. By the time the first debate hit, it was charging. The first debate brought it to a screeching halt. But the momentum never reversed. It just stopped. Now it is moving again. You had 200 people take stickers at a football game!! People are coming to watch football, not hear a political rally. And people told you they were calling to volunteer or ask for a yardsign? Is that some sort of indication they are going to vote Kerry?!? I hope you told them where to pick up their signs. The train is rolling again. You'll feel it soon enough. In the meantime, thanks for your dedication.
