ALBANY (AP) -- An 18-year-old student at SUNY Morrisville died Saturday after she was kicked in the throat by a horse, officials said.
Bridget Publicover of Rochester, a second-year student, was in a field outside the college's equine center stables when she was kicked, college spokeswoman Jessica DeCerce said.
Publicover was conscious after she was kicked around 2:30 p.m. Two students called for help and walked her to the parking lot, where she collapsed, Smithfield Fire Department first assistant chief Dick Perry said.
Firefighters were unable to resuscitate Publicover.
She was scheduled to graduate in May, DeCerce said.
Students, faculty members and college employees were being notified of her death Saturday, DeCerce said.
"We're shocked and saddened by this horrible tragedy," she said. "The college's thoughts and prayers are with Bridget's family and friends."
The horse was not owned by Publicover. DeCerce said it was unknown Saturday whether the animal belonged to the school or another student.
..
whats with all the "horse kicking" threads ?
Either that or like when there is a bunch of shark attacks, bear attacks or train derailments.
Hey, good luck against the 'Stros -- should be a great series...

That's what I was thinking. There have been several people getting kicked by horses lately. The horses must be upset about something.
Can I have her CDs?
Ok, I am done....got to get to work.
Conspiracy afoot.
When walking behind a horse - ALWAYS - touch his backside to let him know your there, and ALWAYS walk as close to him as possible. THat way if he does try to kick you can feel it start, and two, being as close as possible lowers the target area and lessens the impact. The kick would actually push you back out of range.
Weather change. They always get fiesty when the weather cools off, run and buck and kick around alot. This is really sad.

These are all so sad. I could guess though that maybe, just maybe, these horse accidents happen daily all over, we just do not hear of them usually. Maybe after the report of Christopher Reeves death and it's relation to his accident with a horse, reporters are more likely to make note of it and bring it into the local news, (instead of just leaving it in the ER at the hospital), because they know it may catch the ears of the listening audience more so now. Just a guess.
I'm sure it happens more then we hear. I've known of several bad accidents just among the people I know. The thing is almost all of the accidents where carelessness, or recklessness on the part of the person hurt. Then the horse gets the blame, and people who don't know better are afraid of them.
Kicking and biting horses need an immediate and pretty severe response. It's unacceptable behavior no matter what, but sometimes I understand why they do it.

Hello? These kinds of things can be minimized if people do what they are supposed to do - walk either right behind the rump with a hand on the horse so he knows you're moving around him, or walk far enough away from the horse that he can't reach you.

Thanks for all the pings.
Probably winter coming and carelessness on the part of people in most of these. So sad though.
As usual, you are right on. Not that many bad horses, just careless people. And the true biters and kickers need immediate and attention getting discipline.
When I was little I was thrown from a printed pony which grandma brought for me it was in 49 at her gas station on the main highway partly payment and dirt.
My mother was mad but hay I am here and somethng must have spooked the horse!
In those days things were still pretty much farm land as the city grew!
My grandma keep it on a farm land about a 1/4 mil away but my mother told her I could not have a horse!
Yes that is very true. I wish all the people who recently got kicked would have done that. It's very sad.
