The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Heh. Don't they know that the stuff goes on sale in the morning?

Maybe I'll hand out tofu. :)

1. Hannibal Lecter mask

2. The knife you'll use on Thanksgiving

3. A bottle of fake blood (saw them down at the Big Impersonal Store That Has Everything...looked to be about a quart)

4. Surgeon's greens, soaked in (3.)

5. Your accomplice, in the dark behind you, alternately whimpering, sobbing, and shouting "Where's my Precious?" just incoherently enough to confuse the trickertreater

6. As you murmur ominously, "Come in...you're next..."

I can still remember the families that gave us Macintosh (always Macintosh) apples as treats, to our great disgust.

On the other hand, one of the apple families was an old farming couple...and they always gave us each a dollar bill, too! No kidding! I dunno if they did that for all trick-or-treaters or what, but it was VEY cool. That was a lot of money in my eyes back then.

I'm thinkin' he's heavy on the tricks and light on the treats.

Least he wouldn't get many repeat offenders...

I really should be packing...

Tomorrow is the first of nine moving days...

I packed my car with boxes of books and videotapes, and about 7/8ths of my dishes (moving on to paper plates and plastic forks'n'cups'n'such for the duration)...thought I'd get 6 boxes in there (small car)...got 12!

Saturday is Heavy Lift day...sofa, bookcases, table, chairs, etc.

I really should be packing...

Me and one of my best buds, for a new year's party one year... decided to make some blanks on my Dillon press, for .357. Long about midnight with everybody doing the countdown... 3...2...1... and we both pulled out concealed guns and started firing them in the air. It was indoors, so it was plenty loud.

You shoulda' seen 'em dive fer cover... :-)

Sounds like you done good and have earned a break, I'd say!

Just one. The rest are discouraged by the flayed skin displayed on the gate. :-)
