Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Still round the corner there may wait...
New verse:
Upon the hearth the fire is red, Beneath the roof there is a bed; But not yet weary are our feet, Still round the corner we may meet A sudden tree or standing stone That none have seen but we alone. Tree and flower and leaf and grass, Let them pass! Let them pass! Hill and water under sky, Pass them by! Pass them by! |
Still round the corner there may wait A new road or a secret gate, And though we pass them by today, Tomorrow we may come this way And take the hidden paths that run Towards the Moon or to the Sun. Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe, Let them go! Let them go! Sand and stone and pool and dell, Fare you well! Fare you well! |
Home is behind, the world ahead, And there are many paths to tread Through shadows to the edge of night, Until the stars are all alight. Then world behind and home ahead, Well wander back to home and bed. Mist and twilight, cloud and shade, Away shall fade! Away shall fade! Fire and lamp, and meat and bread, And then to bed! And then to bed! |

Almost another week and I'll be a homeowner again.
To: Overtaxed
I believe I closed on my house on the 29th, too. So it'll be my...um...three year anniversary as a home owner.
Doesn't seem like it's been that long.

Might have been before the 29th...but it was this week, in any case.
I waited until after Halloween to move in, so's I could avoid all that. ;-) I suppose I should buy candy one of these days.

I keep fighting down the urge to hand out rocks.
To: Overtaxed
Or coal.
But rocks are cheaper.
Seriesly, usually I manage to be away that night...but this time it's a Sunday night, when I'm always here. I guess I COULD turn off all the lights in the front of the house and read in my bedroom...heh...

A friend of my sister likes to put out an empty basket on the porch with a sign that says "help yourself".
To: Overtaxed
Heh...looking like someone already did, in other words?
Yah, that'd work.
Not like I get many kids here anyway...but it's still something of a nuisance. For one thing, the stoopid dogs (who are really getting on my nerves tonight) just about have a heart attack if someone just walks BY the house, let alone actually comes to the door.
My outdoor light is busted right now anyway...maybe no one will come.

What ticks me off is when you get people bussing in from other neighborhoods. That and freakin' teenagers trick-or-treating. Grow up, already!
To: Overtaxed
heh, evil! I guess it matches the holiday.
We never celebrated it. No candy, no nothing. We just turned the lights down and played board games and ignored the door knocking.
To: Overtaxed
Yep. Last year I had teenagers come that weren't even dressed up. Just wanted the candy. I gave them some 'cause I didn't feel like arguing. But...huh?

That's pretty much what I do only I like to watch those old spooky movies. And I usually light a jack o'lantern.
To: RosieCotton
Some little kids dressed up as convincing teenagers? Wow! what ingenuity!
To: RosieCotton
But they're "grown" doncha know.
