The Hobbit Hole XVI - Still round the corner there may wait...

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Still round the corner there may wait...

New verse:

Upon the hearth the fire is red,
Beneath the roof there is a bed;
But not yet weary are our feet,
Still round the corner we may meet
A sudden tree or standing stone
That none have seen but we alone.
Tree and flower and leaf and grass,
Let them pass! Let them pass!
Hill and water under sky,
Pass them by! Pass them by!

Still round the corner there may wait
A new road or a secret gate,
And though we pass them by today,
Tomorrow we may come this way
And take the hidden paths that run
Towards the Moon or to the Sun.
Apple, thorn, and nut and sloe,
Let them go! Let them go!
Sand and stone and pool and dell,
Fare you well! Fare you well!

Home is behind, the world ahead,
And there are many paths to tread
Through shadows to the edge of night,
Until the stars are all alight.
Then world behind and home ahead,
We’ll wander back to home and bed.
Mist and twilight, cloud and shade,
Away shall fade! Away shall fade!
Fire and lamp, and meat and bread,
And then to bed! And then to bed!

Hmmm....which fairy tales? Some of them can be quite dark.

Found one of those once. After I shot one of the annoying white rabbits that kept coming out it was sealed up by someone from the other side.

Evenin' folks. I'm not dead yet.

No, I haven't gone to the doctor yet. Had a decent day, although I haven't been able to talk since this morning (from the coughing last night). Decided if it wasn't happening "right now" it wasn't an emergency, so I didn't call the doctor. I will at 7:00 in the morning when their office opens. The unofficial opinion around here is that it was an asthma attack. IF I have another episode tonite, wife is prepared to take me to the ER.

Jen - the roast is done when church is over. That's what my wife said anyway the first time she tried to cook one on a Saturday. All she knew from growing up was that her mom put it in before church and it was done when they got home.

Our contractor ripped out the rest of the second bathroom today. It's currently sitting on the back of the truck ready to go to the landfill tomorrow. It's amazing. This leak was older than the one that ruined the piano. But it was slower and just never broke thru. 'Course insurance ain't payin' fer this one...

I like that idea for a story.

I think you need a theme, though, or a moral. Decide what you want it to be, and then let that drive the plot.

You didn't leave anything in their world, did you?

Bad things can happen if you do that, ya know...

Yeah, that's what I'm thinkin'. But I dunno where to go with it. Will probably sit down and start a little outlining and see if any ideas come to me.

Thanks!

Going to watch some of that Burns Civil War in awhile.
I think there's a Frederick Douglas quote in there somewhere that I want.

What always strikes me the most about that DVD, though, is the eloquence of the writing in some of the letters home from the soldiers that they quote.

"Agitate! Agitate, agitate, agitate!"

(That's my favorite Frederick Douglas quote, anyway...)

It was a different era, that's for sure...

Just ahead of the Victorian era.
History is fascinating, and seems not to have even lasted very long.

Whose AK?

When I was over there (for Round 1), woe betide you if you were found with an AK...

I don't know but it looks like somebody is standing behind Steve and the donkey. Probably not the best place to stand.
