Except for a brief period with the Houston Rockets, this town has richly deserved its nickname of Choke City.

It would be nice to have had the Super Bowl, the All-Star game, and the World Series in Houston in 2004, but long-time residents aren't getting their hopes up.

As a Cub fan, I hope the Astros get swept. I'll admit it, I hate the Astros and the Cardinals with the same vigor that I despise John Kerry and his cadre of Sociocrats. Go Dodgers! Go Braves!

What does John Kerry have to do with the Cubs?

I've been a Dodger fan ever since I was a little kid, and I always will be.

I admit that I'm less of a fan of baseball than I used to be, and I don't pay a heck of a lot of attention to it anymore since the player strike and free agency.

I do attend Astro games when somebody else buys the tickets (It is a fabulous stadium).

I would like to see the Cubs in the playoffs. Even fans of other teams kinda have the Cubs as a sentimental second choice.

I'd love to see the Cubs in the playoffs just to see what dreadful mishap would befall them.

Let's face it, Steve Bartman and that eighth inning last year was pretty darn entertaining.

I hope you Astro fans were happy when the Cardinals pulled on a Barney Frank on you. Congrats on your "victory".

I agree totally. There are many fans of baseball that want to see the Cubs in the series. I'm a Yankee fan (grew up in NYC) but live (survive) in Boston. And I'd prefer the Cubs to the Redsux anytime. I remember guys like Ernie Banks and Ron Santos.

If it weren't for that messed-up foul ball, the Cubs would have been in the World Series. The team became totally distracted by the play.

Well, there was also the fact that Baker never thought Prior would fall apart. There were signs that this was happening but Baker missed it and then brought Farnsworth into the game without letting him get warmed up (which led to the Marlins scoring eight runs total in the inning). Alex Gonzalez' error didn't help either. It stunk. The Cubs should be, at the very least, defending their NL Championship this year. They have a good team. Much better than the Astros, I think. 2005 will be a different story.

But that was Game 6. What was the excuse for Game 7? I blame Dusty Baker for the Cubs' current state, as well as for last year -- he has encouraged these players to whine and moan and blame everything else but themselves when they mess up. The Cubs players seemed more concerned about an announcer criticizing them than they did about making the playoffs.

Remember the Red Sox in 1986? Same principle of a team flattened by a combination of its hubris and ill omens.

Don't get me started on Dusty. On another thread I wrote he strives for mediocrity, therefore failure is a certitude. Winning just enough to look capable, but shows no real leadership and when he does, it's Valentine-like.

The only time Dusty came alive was the time the Giants took the Dodgers out of the division several years ago in a final series in LA. Other than that, he's taken teams with bona fide stars and future Hall of Famers to either debacle-like finishes or disappointing losses.

Reminds me Gene Mauch without the genius tag.
