Kerry Advocated Reinstating The Draft During The Debate (Vanity)

Anyone else notice that Kerry advocated reinstating the draft during the debate last night? He said he had a plan to add two more divisions to the army and more special forces. How do you do that without the draft?

We have several threads currently underway on FR regarding the debate. Please don't start a new one with commentary that could be attached to an existing thread.

Thank you. I was waiting for someone to point this out. I was thinking that at the time he said it.

Not defending Kerry here, but you add divisions and extra SpecFor units by upping the military's budget and increasing their recruiting limit. There are more than enough volunteers.

Does it matter to Kerry how he would do any of the things he says he'll do? Does the Army even want two more divisions or more special forces?

I want to know if he favors drafting women, and if they should receive equal consideration for all fighting positions.

Yep, I caught that one, too.

Here's Kerry:

"We've got a backdoor draft taking place in America today: people with stop-loss programs where they're told you can't get out of the military; nine out of our 10 active duty divisions committed to Iraq one way or the other, either going, coming or preparing.

"So this is the way the president has overextended the United States. "That's why, in my plan, I add two active duty divisions to the United States Army, not for Iraq, but for our general demands across the globe. I also intend to double the number of special forces so that we can do the job we need to do with respect fighting the terrorists around the world. And if we do that, then we have the ability to be able to respond more rapidly...."

From what source does one man two entire divisions, and for what purpose?

Kerry is critical of the President in saying that our focus is not on Osama bin Laden but on Saddam Hussein, yet here he further waters down our military and further extends our commitments to efforts that are wholly unrelated to threats against the United States and the American people.

Actually, adding two new divisions, was one of the few things that I totally agreed with Senator Kerry on last night.

All Congress must do is allocate the money, and we will get the people.

Under Clinton, our military was reduced by about 50%. It is about time we give the military what it needs to do the job.

sorry, but I didn't hear that...maybe it was in the 1/2 of the debate I missed.

BUT, I have loved the way our trustworthy (guffaw!) "journalists"
have been silent about the likely "Kerry Draft" if he ends up deploying his
"extra 40,000 troop anywhere except Iraq".

Kerry never talked about the draft during the debate.

However, President Bush did address the issue at the end. He specifically mentioned continuing an "All Voluntary Military."

I actually applauded last night when he said that. He was hitting the Democrats between the eyes, and calling them on this fraud.

The two divisions he wants to add would be under the directive of the United Nations.

We had six more division in the 80's without a draft, and we currently have a 3-6 month wait for slots to open for new enlistees. Of course enlistments may dry up with a CIC like Kerry.
