A senseless vanity having nothing to do with either news or activism.

Vanity and non-news, quite true. Trying to get someone to join sure seems like activism to me. Senseless? Boy, it really did turn out that way.

find a new way to impress folks.

I did not post this to impress anyone. I did it as a public, direct invitation for someone to join and take part.
Besides, getting dog-piled is not my idea fun.

need to calm down

Now there, you are right on. Having the night-shift root posting that I should explain myself set me off a bit.

It's obvious that pretty much everyone misunderstood my intentions, including the Mod, but I knew what I was trying to do.

Also, I've seen no indication that the person has joined.

Yes, this was a senseless and worthless attempt at advocacy.

No, I think the mod understood; that is why he cut you the slack, even after you insulted him.

If you wanted it in the sidebar so that your friend could find it, there are a number of options which are less heavily patroled. News/Activism Free Republic likely would have lasted much longer. Vanities in Breaking News will usually get pulled rather than moved.

But maybe he forgot (a drinker, perhaps, as was suggested upthread).
