Astronomers know nothing about the universe, except for a few large bodies with regular orbits. Any idiot should have understood that the latest by April 14, 2004, as comet Bradfield (diameter : 10,000 km) popped out of nowhere to become the largest body ever recorded in the inner solar system.

I suppose too that ANY IDIOT would know that hundreds of minor comets and other bodies are discovered each year by amateur astronomers using only modest equipment. Shoemaker-Levy 9 ring a bell? Hoax you say? Tell you what, the article says it can be seen using a modest 8" reflector. Do a GOOGLE search, get the Right Ascention and Declination figures for the appropriate dates, AND SEE FOR YOURSELF. That's science, repeatable and verifiable by others. You can mooch along with some telescope club in your area if you don't have the equipment.

Do you understand how UTTERLY DAN RATHER STUPID it would be to publish false information about an astronomical event when literally HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of people who are interested and capable can CHECK IT OUT THEMSELVES?

You can't FAKE an astronomical occurance. If you believe this information is false, use the proper equipment and check it out. Until then, keep your accusations of fraud to yourself.

The article also has an approach table. I am sure with a little more digging, you can get R.A. and DEC settings for a telescope for given dates and locations. Look for yourself.

Perhaps I missed it, what is the hoax and what is the truth? I dont think anyone but idiot kooks ever suggested that this thing had the slightest change of hitting the earth today.

NEWSFLASH.... Even though the EFFECTS of air have been observed for millenia, the actual visual EVIDENCE of air has not been confirmed. We here at CBS News, via faxed scientific data from the Presumed Coalition of Air Non-Believers (PCAN) have concluded that air does not exist and never has.
This massive hoax perpetuated on the American public is believed to be the work of Karl Rove.

Toutatis isn't a hoax, it was discovered in 1989, it is going to pass less than a million miles from the Earth, and 10s of 1000s of non-planetary objects are known.

I didn't notice before that "truth666" claimed that Comet Bradfield (the 18th discovered by Bill Bradfield, as it turns out) had a diameter of 10,000 km.

"the absolute coma diameter measured 40.000 - 80.000 km when the comet emerged in the morning sky, reaching 400.000 km at maximum, decreasing to 150.000 km at the end of June" with a tail of 22 million miles max.

A diameter of 10,000 km would be over 6200 miles. While the coma (the bright ice-to-vapor material that boils out of the comet nucleus) was very large indeed, if a celestial body 3/4ths the diameter of Earth had loped through the inner solar system, even the election coverage would have been on the back burner. Nothing of that kind happened.
