Vanity: Why Don't We Implant Tracking Devices For All Our Personnel In Iraq?
9/22/04 | JohnnyCap

Posted on 09/22/2004 5:29:43 PM PDT by johnnycap

Forgive me for this vanity post but I had an idea that I thought merited discussion. Today, while thinking about the most recent beheadings in Iraq, it occurred to me that perhaps, if we implanted all personnel, military and civilian in Iraq with a tracking device, there might only be one more kidnapping. My hope in posting this is that someone who might be in a position to consider the idea might be lurking here. Thanks for indulging me.

Some ideas that sound good on paper work out to be really lousy in reality.

Do you really want to open Pandora's box?

Putting in an implant doesn't mean those implants will come out, and that will open the door for liberals, here at home, to begin an implant process for all Americans in the name of national security.

Look at the implant programs being bandied about in Mexico if you have any doubts.

Too big to implant.

Unless you're very creative (and sick).

When I was in Iraq we had what's called 'BlueFor trackers' (BlueFor is short for Blue Force, blue being the color of friendly units). They go on your vehicles and do basically what you are suggesting. They're a little big for each person to wear, about the size of an external modem. Even if you did wear it, they'd just pull it off of you when you were captured.

From posts in other threads, I gather tracking devices cheap enough to deploy in numbers would be too large to implant.

You mean the chip they implant in dogs? That chip isn't GPS capable!. It's simple a chip with an ID # that gets scanned to ID the dog.

Leaving aside the technical challenges (keeping an implant powered, for one thing), but once known, the enemy would have no compunction about "unimplanting" them, no matter where they were in the body.

yep. Besides the freedom issues, this is something that I have no doubt would occur. And I doubt if they'd use any type of anesthetic.

I thought they had them teeny enough to be implanted.

Because, unlike the situation with cattle (where you're basically able to walk right up to the animal without any problem and hold the scanner only an inch or so away from the animal's skin, this system would have to work at much longer ranges, in urban terrain.

Because the terrorists would carve them up looking for it? Here's a better idea, pull every civilian contractor out of Iraq and let the military clean house!

OT but related: the Dread Boston Salty is microchipped, and I need to know what brand of chip and what serial number. Does anyone have any idea how we can find that out? Does the ASPCA have a thing like the purse screener at the airport, where you put the dog on the belt and he goes through the x-ray and comes out the other side?

It will work only a few times, but that might be enough to snare those MuslInsects!

EXCELLENT IDEA! You deserve a medal or something for thinking of that. I imagine there are some practical or logistical downsides but it's an idea that at least deserves strong consideration.

Is it worth it?

I dunno. But ask the guys who are currently being held by the lunatic freak Islamists. Oh, too bad, they all got their heads chopped off. Can't ask.

Where would you put it....an arm, they'd cut the arm off...the torso, they'd cut it out and probably kill you doing so...it would have to be he size of a computer chip.....

Why not one of those Home Imprisonment ankle bracelet things??? How hard could it be to start putting those in shoes?

The bad guys dont ever have to find out how the snake-eaters found their hideout 20 minutes after they kidnapped somebody?
