SEATTLE - A high-speed ferry trip to Victoria, British Columbia - AND a flu shot. Brilliant, eh?
Trying to capitalize on the flu shot shortage in the United States, Clipper Navigation is offering travelers aboard the Victoria Clipper a special rate of $105 per person for both round-trip transportation and a flu shot. The normal fare is $115 per person, the company said Thursday.
The shots will be administered to passengers at the Belleville Terminal once the passenger has been cleared by Canada Customs and Immigration, officials said.
The shots will be available Monday through Saturday until Dec. 31, officials said. Those who have already booked their trips can add a flu shot for $30.
The Victoria Clipper departs Seattle at 8 a.m. and leaves Victoria at 5 p.m. daily.
So many Americans are going north for flu shots that health officials in Vancouver, B.C., are planning a one-day clinic specifically for U.S. citizens on Oct. 30. It will be held at the Health Authority at 601 West Broadway in downtown Vancouver.
The influenza vaccination shots will cost about $40 U.S. or $50 Canadian, $30 as a clinic fee and $20 for the vaccine.
The flu shots in Canada are not approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, but that isnt stopping those who cant get vaccinated in the United States.
During the past week, nurses in Surrey, B.C. have given shots to hundreds of Americans.
Dr, Paul Assad of the International Travel Health and Vaccination Clinic said about 90 percent of his customers recently were Americans. He has 10,000 doses on hand. While he will administer the shots to anyone who asks, the majority of his patients are from high-risk categories, including a lot of cancer sufferers
