Correct-a-mundo about the HUGE ships. The Commodore Line out of NO, that sails about 800 people is much more preferable than the 3000 or so that Carnival sails.

I also prefer to stay in the bottom-most berths in case of rough weather, and not waking up bare-assed naked to some painter dude staring in the window while berthed above the waterline. Who knew that painting the ship was a lifetime occupation?

My mother enjoys the small ships with 50 to 150 passengers. They are usually shallow draft enough to get into ports the regular cruise ships can't get to.
