Lodwick and I both live in Austin (well, Im in a suburb NW of Austin).
The weather is generally nice in January and temps in the 60s. It can vary though, so no promises.

That's great, thanks! I was there in late November about four years ago (Gov. Bush was president-elect) and it was quite pleasant. But, someone at work yesterday said it might snow that time of year. I'll just bring my coat in case.

The whole central plains of the US from the Rockies to the Apalaichins is subject to neat 'Northers' because there is nothing between say, Austin, and the North Pole but flat ground.
You can go out to lunch under sunny skies at 60* and when you get ready to go home at 5:00 the wind will be howling, temperature around 25* and heavy sleet.
