I tend to drive about 10 miles over the speed limit, in the hopes I don't get pulled over and ticketed. I was thinking 6 hours was probably about right. My husband went to medical school in LA, and his trips back to the bay area took him around 6 hours, so I don't think that's too far out of line. When I looked at a flight itinery and the amount of time spent in airports including a layover in LAX to pick up a connection to Oxnard, then renting a car, it just seemed like I could make the drive without wasting much more time. And not having to put up with security, taking my shoes off, blah blah blah. I hate to fly if I don't have to.

Just wear a black wig, put a bumper siticker on the car with the Mexican flag, hang some pink foam rubber dice on the rear view mirror and put a plastic statue of the Virgin Mary on the dashboard and they won't bother you. For extra insurance, toss a live goat in the back seat.
