He's fine, it happened a few years ago. Only about one person each year dies from a bat bite in the U.S. Like with rattlers, a lot of the time, it's some idiot showing off and molesting the creature. Even with sick bats, ninety to 95% are not rabid. 99% of rabies deaths worldwide come from DOGS.
On top of it, bats do far more insect control (e.g. mosquitoes) than most people know. They are a strong ally against insect-borne diseases too.

I have had a bat box hanging on my house for two years now. So far, no bats. And I really wanted them for insect control.
About like to give me a heart attack there..
I usually, as mentioned previously, toss crickets into the air for them.
And they help keep the mosquito population down.
And since West Nile was found in the mosquitos in Greenville Township where I live, and the envrio-wackies won't let anyone do anything to control them, the next best thing is to have LOTS of bats..
