Hmmm.. Ok, my sister's horse with the colic has improved slightly, and the vet has been out a couple of times. Gave her mineral oil, banamine, and put a tube down her nose to let some gas out. He said she was very gassy. Finally, she ate a little.

Now I just got a call from my sister. Her other horse has it!! She's rolling and they are having a heck of a time keeping her on her feet. Dang! The vet is on his way but says it will take over an hour to get there. I'm wondering what would cause them both to get colic. They only feed them crimped oats and they're at the end of the bag. They grow their own hay so that hasn't changed at all.

Either the hay or the oats are bad.

Look for mold.

Ask her to check the oats for mold, check the hay, mold? blister beetles? toxic weed?

If it isn't in their feed, it also could be something toxic in their paddock or pasture. The vet might be able to identify toxic plants.

I feel for her... this is going to be expensive, hopefully the vet can get right back out.
