If I didn't ride by myself, I'd only get to ride about once a month. If I only rode when there could be 3 of us, I'd ride about once a year. You know most people just "talk" about riding, few do it on a regular basis. I know quite a few ladies with horses who could ride with me, but they don't. They always have an excuse, some pretty lame. Long time ago I got tired of running down the list of people trying to find someone to ride with.
I agree with you that riding alone is not the best way, but if it's the only way you can ride, then the choice is made.
I take a cell phone with me.

Is there a riding club or something similar near you? My daughter and I had a problem with finding 3 people to kayak, until we joined the local kayak and canoe club. They sponsor multiple trips on any given weekend in the summer, and the trips at our skill level always have two very experienced paddlers leading the trip. Even in the winter there are a few die-hards out paddling (though most interest shifts to coastal kayaking). We could paddle every weekend if we wanted to, and there's even a weekday paddling group that keeps in touch by Email.
