The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Oh yeh - sometimes the cowboys out here drive me batty. Then I put on my dumb act and let them run with it. Eventually, things get done the way I want. Sometimes I don't know which is worse, the cowboys here or the men in the south. :)

Good morning.

Cindy, Okie is probably loosing them when he's out in the pasture playing. From how you described him playing yesterday when you turned him out he's probably stepping on himself. Rusty does that. Slings himself around so much and steps on his own feet. There really is much you can do when they do that:(

I'd still talk to the farrier tho. Have his watch him move away from behind, from the side and coming towards him. He should be able to tell if the horse has any interference and do some correcting.

Good luck:). Nothing worse then a horse always loosing shoes. I cringe everytime I see Rusty playing like that.

Becky

Hey, I'm the one that fired the plumber that had the "little woman" attitude, remember?:')

I am guilty of getting tired of waiting and grabbing ladders or power tools , knowing darn well I'll probably get things moving . I'm up front and my husband knows that I know what I'm up to and that even though I don't know what I'm doing, I know what I'm doing:'). It's effective for me because it is not a bluff. I'll get thru it, with or without help. Their choice. I do it at Walmarts all the time. If I can't get any help for something up high, I start dragging a ladder over or stacking boxes to reach something. Intercom codes start going off and like magic usually a "here let me help you with that ma'am" happens:'). I do know how the brakes work on those things though and can use them all by myself if I have to.

It was like recess yesterday when the horses got turned out of the barn. It felt like fall weather and all of then "feeling good". I'll probably be cringinging too when I pay the bill again but they were beautiful to watch, esp my two of course:')

not yet, shes starting to bag up, her behind is caved in and her belly has changed. Guess it wont be long. We are working on the plans for the barn, so wont be on here much.
Misty is doing great and so is the foal Adge. Took my 5 year old (that wants to be a vet..yippee) in to see him and Misty about brought him to us! He got to touch him and he was in heaven. She doesnt seem to have a problem with us at all and when we've been in the field for a while and Mama is showing how comfortable she is, the little one comes close to us too!
If he has Lightnings temperment, and that it could be, we are going to be very lucky.

My trainer stands behind another bout of very cold weather coming in. I don't see it but just a heads up. I don't know what they are watching but it's definately not the weather channel:')

:') Some people, esp farmers just like that. It amazes me when they can look at a normally cloudy sky and feel the wind and know a storm coming in. We'll see if she's right again.

I guess a Southern cowboy would be the worst of all. :~)

I would guess that y'all are!

Quiet in here this morning... flurries of activity about babies... then a period of quiet and regrouping I think.

My horses are fed and put outside... still hanging around in the lean-to like they wish they could go back to bed. Had to push my pony out. ;~D It's not raining, just a little foggy out, and though they think it's chilly out, it's 39 degrees here, warmer than it should be.
