The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Bob made them a short barn yesterday - temporary. 4X8 sheets of plywood for the three sides and sheets on top for the roof. Sure can't go in it with them :)

Bob fell in love with her - spent the afternoon detangling her mane and tail and clipping the bridle path. Brushing her with baby oil.

You could make a little half-scale village for children, like a theme park.

When I saw her I thought they must have groomed her before she left because she looks so well brushed. Vain of me I know, but I spiff mine up before pics:')

LOL - add our miniature llama and the min pin and we'd be set. Oh, I forgot the bantam hens. I told Bob this is not what I meant by downsizing.

They were all pretty tangled and grungy yesterday when I saw them. I clean my horses up for pictures too. Want them to look their very best :)

Or... perhaps more accurately, a new small Nevada attraction.

I can see I will no longer be taken for a serious horsewoman on this thread. :)

Back to the pony - we used to have a mare that we used for teaching babies to pony. Big heavy QH/Appy with the calmest disposition. Dally the lead rope around her saddle horn and she'd move out. Baby came walking and trotting or drug. She was just as careful as could be but they were coming and that was that.

Well, that's the other thing I have access to now that ecurbh is here... is a saddle horn. I can use his saddle. With my English saddle, I was considering just tieing a line around Bay's neck.

I saw a picture awhile back when you were riding your paint and had a lead rope on a foal. Is that what yall are talking about with ponying up?

What sweet little horses. They look well cared for. No founder at least. So easy to founder those little guys.

I don't think he'd like it much if she set back on him.
