Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Just wondered what kind of bridle you used! ;~D
will do. Have a great day. We have given her more feed and more coastal hay, so she is happily chomping again.
Can we pleeeeeeeaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeee change the subject! LOL
Um............do you have snow?
Um ...........what are your horses called?
Um.......what time does it get dark there..........???!
LOL LOL LOL
Well i really do have to go now, not stomping either! :D
i need to go tend Mam and get lunch ready.
Have a great day everyone.

Well, if you don't even know that about me, then I never properly introduced myself at all!
This is me, on the left, with my 22 year old Arab gelding named Bay. He is the best hearted horse I know... not a pushover yet even at 22, but a great old horse. He used to be owned by a friend, and I've known him a long time. I ride English, used to show Arab horses and also did some show jumping in my youth.
My husband of six months is on the right, he's a new rider still, having never ridden before he met me, and we just bought his first horse there, Cyn... an Arab/Mustang cross who is only 7 but very easy going and well suited to teach him to ride.
We also have a pretty pony who is our pet and pasture ornament. She isn't well broke to ride, and we don't have kids.
We now mostly ride trail, or will ride more trail, when spring comes :~D
Good morning. Fescue grass. It will cause abortion in mares. Safest just not to have it even if you don't have pregnant mares. That way, just in case you do get one, you don't have to worry about putting them out on grass.
well........pleased to meet you! How is hubby doing with putting on all the bridle etc? It looks so confusing~
James has just said that we also have hackermore but lets not get onto that again! LOL
I have been married to James (deaconjim) now for nearly 4 years, he adopted my girl and boy who are now 10 and 5 and we have since had another little one who is nearly 3.
We met on a chat thing that a friend from church reccomended to me, others who are young and lost their partners were chatting on how to get on after such a loss and James lost his wife not long after i lost Dave. We chatted for months and then, i came over here for a vacation and it was like we had known each other forever, Something clicked and he proposed and months later we married. We have never looked back and I love America.
Sometimes our language differences are interesting, you'd be amazed at how much this happens. But I feel very blessed.
ecurbh and I met here on Free Republic, we were nuts obsessed with the Lord of the Rings movies, and found a great group of friends on the Hobbit Hole thread that are very real friends today. I met him in those threads.
He was not quite so far away from me as you two were.... Minnesota to Washington. ;~D
And yes, he still has trouble with the bridle if I don't hand it to him all ready to go.
I also met Becky here on FR, but since she was not into LoTR, we were out of place talkin' horses too much on that thread and started this one, with Cindy that we also knew, and the other just found us since!
There are so many wild fescues here I don't know how you ever know you don't have it.... even in local hay. People end up just drylotting them the last few months. Not very fun for her, but I'd prolly do the same. I've got all kinds of who knows what out in my pasture.
Boy, I don't know how you would be able to tell what was growing there. Drylotting is probably best then. 'Course that's all my horses since I don't have pasture here.
As promised - really good books with barn plans, etc. I am listing them in the order that I like them, best one first. You can probably get them all at your local library, if not, ask if they will inter-library loan them.

thankyou! Invaluable info!
:) Isn't it though. Have to admit, it's not a bad trade off - I've got the mountains.
You're welcome. :)
Trouble for me would be the dang heat that goes with it ;~D
I can tolerate cold, but I am useless when it is over 85-90 degrees.
It doesn't get hot and stay that way here, but we have no humidity so you don't feel the heat as much. And as soon as the sun drops, the temperatures do too. Sometimes by as much as 40 degrees.
I've heard people tell all about dry heat ;~D My family is from Arizona, and it's still dang hot in Phoenix. I gather it's not as hot as that then?
You have a pic of what this grass looks like?
