Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
As long as it's a safe heater... adding un-necessary fire risks to barns is another phobia of mine.
we keep the saddles and tack and garden equipment in the well house that we built. Its fairly large and yes, it is a safe heater.
I would be scared to leave a heater on in the barn. We were talking about a window ac/heater that could be turned off and on because I want to use the tack room as an office/ lounge area too.
James has just arrived and wants you to know that he loves you all to bits (for your suggestions!)and yes the hot tub is a better idea, so is the lean to! Bye for tonight! Its been fun!
Sharn
Night:') Enjoy the hot tub.
Is the position you're taking the one that the lady offered you a while back.
Night, have fun
Yeah. I didn't chase it. I figured they weren't interested but Thursday I got an offer in the mail.
That's great.
Yeah
I think this is the first step to getting your property and barn :)
That's the way I'm looking at it:')
I am really so happy for you (feel like a proud parent) :) I'll have to look tomorrow and get you the titles of some books with barn plans in them.
The lean to is smaller than ideal for three, but they can escape out each end, and out the front. The stalls just have rails between them that would be pretty easy to remove if I was crazy enough to want a foaling stall ;~D
The stalls divide the barn down the middle, and the other side has hay and bedding in it..
I think that's a good plan, and especially with your horses which get along. They've got shelter from sun and rain but free access to outdoors and then warm stalls if/when necessary.
I'd put a wire guard over the light (speaking as someone who had a filly think that was something that might be fun to play with)
Heh... good tip. It's up pretty high, but I wouldn't underestimate their ability to find trouble.
I think you could put one in a totally clean pasture with web fencing and they could find a way to hurt themselves. They are magnets for trouble :)
Meant to add - the filly that broke a light - it was hanging from the ceiling of her stall and how she got up to it we have no idea. It should have been waaayyy out of her reach.
Especially babies...
~knocking on wood~ mine have been pretty accident free. I have a friend who had a horse so accident prone he was bandaged or recovering somewhere from the moment he came home to the moment he sold him.
That sounds about par for some of them. I think especially young ones, but they get bored and heaven help you, they will break something or injure themselves in a second.
