Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I was afraid to ask. It sounds like I have a lot of work ahead of me in the morning.
I'm not surprised. I think I wouldn't put them back together until both the babies are a little older, just in case Sugar is submissive enough that she can't protect her baby.
I have a good flashlight! Midnight you are getting home right???? LOL
We won't. If Sugar holds off a little while, we will swap places with them so Sugar can be in the "maternity ward".
We dont plan to, we have enough fields to give them all their own space for as long as they need it.
I think the hardest thing I ever had to learn with horses was to just walk away when I got mad. Especially when they are doing something stupid. But I've been known to throw a bucket at one a time or two.
The weather may stay ok. I have no idea where my trainer gets this from and if it's the same pattern I'll get it before yall will.
LOL that reminds me of when I threw a stepladder at James(deaconjim) when we were building our house ! LOL
I am glad it warmed up for you, and I hope you get your barn up soon...
And if I might add something, you were led down a bad path by whoever told you you should just turn that stallion out with your mares and let them breed at will. I don't know anyone who would have recommended that... or recommended that you take on a stallion in the first place. My understanding is that he is not a registered horse, and really should be gelded. It is definately not too late to prevent him from developing the traits and behaviors that most studs have. He has less value and useability for you, but is also much harder to sell as a stallion. Most people, even and especially experienced horse people, wouldn't bother to look at a stud.
i missed :(
Yep, that will work just fine.
I've done that. Tied their butt up to a fence pole and walked off until I calmed down. I've thought about doing it with my husband too but I can't get a rope on him:')
Yeah we plan on getting him gelded. We also have a friend interested in him. He has a wonderful temperment and is eager to please. However by choice i dont ever want a Christmas foal again!
LOL Sometimes I can't get to one of the horses or dogs when they are really out of line (dog chasing a chicken) or horse kicking the stall door, but I throw a mean bucket.
It's too bad we can't isn't it. Here I wouldn't be the owner of three more horses today if I could have tied him up for awhile.
LSHMHFO (laughed so hard my head fell off!)
Looks like James has left work so I had better get the flashlight, hammer and nails and a thermos ready! LOL
If someone wants to buy him, pat him on the back, grab the money and ask where they want him delivered to. You are going to have your hands sooo full with two babies on top of all of your other responsibilities.
Plus, that will help pay for the stable :)
The friend knows he is green broke and will continue with the same trainer!
