Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I thought from the pictures you posted she looked bigger then Misty.

The weather is freezing, the trees and everything else is covered with ice.
Misty is wearing a halter, but we didn't want to tie her just yet. I figured that would stress them both. After coffee, we're going back out and will give it another try.
I wouldn't tie her either. Just have someone hold the line and soothe her. She'll get use to it. I wouldn't do it for great lenghts of time. Just 2-3 times a day for short periods.

Sugar looked a lot bigger around than Misty, but Misty is a much bigger horse, so she was able to hide it more. I don't think it will be long before Sugar drops.
Oh, and sorry about the weather. That makes it difficult doesn't it.
Our weather here is warming up. It was 28 this morning, and the forecast says highs in the 50's for the week. Maybe it will move that way and warm you guys up.

I'm obviously not properly equipped for birthing babies. I'm trying to figure out what i can do on short notice before Sugar foals to make this easier for her.
Pictures will take a while to post. For some reason our camera will no longer download to our computer. We have to go into town and have the card printed to a CD to get them off. We'll take plenty and try to get them posted as soon as possible.
Time to get breakfast started. We'll update later.
Congratulations you two. Looking forward to the pictures but yall don't go into town in bad weather just for that.
Hi This is Sharn, It was James before! LOL and yes I am excited, and yes I have been on the phone to England! LOL Lots of very good friends there that have been on tender hooks too~ We are having breakfast, and seeing to James Mama and then we will be outside to see to Misty and the foal a bit more. The foal seems to be doing great, I just wish it was warmer!

Funny red neck question. What would you call the kids of 2 sisters that had the same father. Cousins are siblings?
The mares are not related! But the foals are both from Lightning.
Foals name has changed............it is now ADGE
My late husband that died of cancer in 2000 (My 10 and 5 year olds father) nickname was ADGE, and he died on this day. So James thought to honor the foal with his nickname.
the foal is running around happy right now!
How are you pronouncing Adge?
Does he look like lightening or darker like Misty?
like badge without the B. Its a Scottish name.
slightly darker like Misty, but short in the body like Lightning, He also has this brilliant white star on his forhead! Cute!
