The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

The first sentence was supposed to say "I have very few pictures of me showing."

Your stallion is GORGEOUS! And you ain't too shabby yourself. Thanks for sharing!

And don't we ALL wish we were still that thin. I used to drink all kinds of goopy stuff when I was in high school to try and GAIN weight. Isn't THAT a hoot! I wish I still had that metabolism now. 25 years of sitting on my butt all day long at a computer have taken their toll. Now I'm happy if I can get up in the morning and find something decent to wear to work that doesn't feel like it's going to cut me in half or look like a sack.

Well, I happen to remember that you are still thin!

I am pudgy enough now to really appreciate a big ole sack!

My stallion ~was~ gorgeous, remember these are all 25 years ago, and he was 14 then :~D

I wish I'd have kept track of my mustang. He went to a good home, and I checked on him for a few years, but lost track.

Jewel in the belly button? :) He was gorgeous. Was he Nazeer/Morific breeding? He really has the look the mare I had did.

Those names sound familiar, but only because they were famous stallions. I have to plead bad memory as to what his breeding was. He looks like a lot of the little Egyptian horses that were very popular then.

Yes, those are Egyptian studs. The Egyptian Arabs are almost gone now, they went out of favor for the bigger Spanish and Polish Arabs - but they are so great. Wonderful temperaments, outstanding intelligence and the ability to walk from the barn to the pasture looking like they will explode any minute but perfectly mindful of a child leading them.

I liked them too. He had a pretty little flitty trot that had a lot of style, and I was showing in the day when English Pleasure horses were not all HUGH action park horses.

Thin is a relative thing I guess. You've just seen me in my slouchy old riding clothes which hide a multitude of pounds. I guess I still remember the me who could fit comfortably in a size 5 jeans. That was about 10 sizes ago.

Oh, I liked the native costume picture. I'll be you had a ball doing that. And the belly button jewel was a cool touch! I always liked costumes when I was a kid.

Well, I really need to get back into the picture thing .. Since I got married, we consolidated and kept "his" computer so I don't have my scanner and good computer.

I'm seriously going to have to rethink the whole thing. I miss sharing pics..

I'm actually horsesless right now for the first time in 20 something years ..

Speaking of pictures, Duchess, if you've got snow, you need to post us some pictures of snow. From what I remember of your round pen pictures, you've got some nice mountains in the distance that I'll bet really look nice when it snows.

Well, we just added a horse because of my marriage, so you two messed up somewhere along the way! You'll have to fix that!

I still have my big ole Bay, and we just bought ecurbh's first horse, this Arab/Mustang mare.

On my profile page, we have our Christmas Card picture up, it's got the whole crew.

Awwww, no, I actually went horseless during the divorce from "the other one". We're living the suburbian life right now ..

Other than going to photograph at a few horseshows, I don't do anything with them anymore. I think it's because if I'm not around them, then I don't miss them quite so much.

I can't wait for us to move somewhere where the dogs can have more room, and I can have another horse.
