The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Olympia, WA... For any horsemen along the route, Mr. Glasscock will need host families for him and his horses. If anyone can assist him, please contact Gayle at his website. If you have the opportunity to meet him and ride with him for awhile, he is a wonderful gentleman with a wealth of stories.

Gosh, I wish I had a bigger place.... I may look into what his horses need and who I know. Sounds like he's traveling with four horses.

It's readable enough! I sent an email to his website to see if I might be able to participate somehow.

He's a really great guy. Right now he has three horses with him - mostly they just need a pasture or paddock to spend the night, and a donation of hay. If you or anyone you know can give him a bed overnight, and/or trailer him back to his route it would be a chance of a lifetime.

He is such an interesting man with so many stories to tell.

Well, I have pasture but no barn space for more than my own, and I said so in the email. And we live in a pretty modest double-wide... I'd hope he gets better offers than ours.

And we don't have a trailer, but my friend Bob might really dig helping him.

Sounds like quite a ride:)

We're back from breakfast and grocery shopping. It's cold here due to lots of wind. I think this is going to be a very lazy, non eventful day.

He's a real down to earth guy :), he'd enjoy meeting you guys and has probably slept on the floor many times. His mustangs probably wouldn't go in a barn unless forced. They are originally BLM mustangs.

If you don't mind though, put out the word to people in your area. And, he really enjoys having people come out and ride with him for awhile.

I asked for details of the expected route through here and the timing.... and asked how I might be able to help. I'll let you know if they answer!

Welcome to the lazy, non-eventful club. it's freezin' here, 29 degrees! We went out to breakfast too and had waffles.

The water troughs has a bit of ice on them this morning, the tempratures have come up, but the wind is really cold.

Our local resturant that we usually eat Sun. breakfast at has been closed for about 2 months now, remodling. We've been at McDonalds....

I'm not putting my tree up till next week.

We are having our annual capaletti making night Sat. and I want to wait till that's done before the tree.

This was our first frost of the year.... But at least it's not raining!

As clear as it is, it's gonna be even colder tonight!

That's funny that we got frost before you all did. We've had frost every morning since about last Wed.

Last year we had a little snowfall before Thanksgiving!

It's been mild.

I missed your pics of your husband riding with him, that's really cool! Your husband reminds me of my friend Bob on his big ole appy.

:) Bob and Prez are both big - Bob's 6'2" and Prez is 16hands. Bob wouldn't sell him for a million, although he says he goes from wanting to hug him around the neck to killing him, generally in the space of one ride :)

Well, my friend Bob is bigger in some respects, and he also both bad-mouths and loves his ornery big ole appy. ;~D He and your husband just look like they were cut from the same fabric ;~D

That's Bob on the right. The guy on the left is my landlord, and his appy "Dan" is just gorgeous.

Those two guys ride all over from WA to Wyoming. I think they'd get a kick out of meeting up with this long distance rider guy.

I took the boys to Burger King after church. Joshua got a hamburger car and Cody wanted it so I exchanged his toy for one too. Then all the other kids started taking theirs back. It was like the twilight zone. Little hamburgers running all over the floor and rug rats chasing them:')

How interesting. This is no lie but I have for years been wanting to travel from Walmart to Walmart when we retire, in an RV all across the country. I got the idea from a map they have posted in a store. At first read it sounds silly but think about it. You get to see real small town America. I absolutely hate interstate traveling.
