My Half-Arab mare hated other horses passing too. She was a reach out and bite-horse. And Bay doesn't like it either, I guess.... if they get on his tail he just walks faster. ;~D Hates to be behind anyone.
But she knew where Okie was, and he was around being rode too..??
I still think it was a hissy fit. Possibly a little amplified because she is in season. Still no excuse. Get rid of her. Even if you have to take a loss...LOL...you can't guess how many we had to take a loss on till I got one I could ride. That;s not being a defeatist. It's being smart. There is nothing to feel bad about in admitting the problem may be beyond your experience level. If I was there, I wouldn't get on her:)

When I longe her it has always been on a longe line. She just runs if I don't but does great with the line. Today, I just didn't. I wanted to longe her with the rope. I had it in my hand. I was going to leave the saddle on. It was raining hard by then so I took my saddle in and threw the rope down.
They have to learn to lead, and they have to learn to follow.
My mare always followed, as she was slower walker. When I finally would get tired of following and put her in the lead, she would get even slower, and zig zag. The people I rode with, would never give me the chance to work it out of her. Part of me didn't blame them, not fun being stuck behind a slow poke, buuuuttttttt......
Now I insist I get equal time in front back and middle, and if I'm in the front and my horse slows down, I tell them to deal with it I'm staying in the front. It's paid off, Rusty and Harley are fine in anywhere in the pack.

Sigh. I used to be such a financially responsible person. Do you know how much I have spent this last month? :')
Maybe next Sat. I'll just go to the auction and buy me a 30 y/o that has arthritis and couldn't throw me if she wanted to.
The owner wanted to breed her. Maybe I can give Sarah Lee to her for what I paid for Okies pasture fee. We'll see.
I don't think it's a saddle problem but what would it cost me to get an expert to check it and who would I call?
Bay's tolerable in the back or in the middle, he just walks faster than everyone I ride with so we have to ride with the brakes on all the time or he'll push. Sometimes they make me ride behind because they want a rest from trotting to keep up ;~D
Friend Bob wants to check out owning a gaited horse though.... we'll see if ole Bay can set the pace then. ;~D
It's not a saddle problem. Save your money, altho it shouldn't cost anything.
One test you can do yourself to see if the saddle fits well, is saddle her up, put her out in the sun and let her break sweat under the pad. Once she is sweating good under the pad, take the saddle off. If the saddle is bridging, she will have dry spots where it wasn't pressing. She should be equally dry all over under the pad. Dry spots usually are up towards the front.

Well she seemed worn down when I got her. She's getting more feed and putting on weight, been wormed and looking better and evidently more entergetic.:')
I bet he won't have a problem. LOL at the ride I went on with CS, the first ride out a lady on a walker asked if she could ride with us. She looked at our horses and said, we may have trouble staying together, since you're on Quarters, and I'M on a walker. Harley walked off and left that walker in the dust:) It was kind of funny.
Becky
I think that is a false lead now, it's not your problem. But something to think about to fit the next horse. I would plan on having to at ~least~ get the right pad to fit between your saddle and any new horse. Here, they'll fit saddle and pad to the horse for no extra charge, if you are giving them the business. Our saddle guy came out here to fit Bay for the cost of the custom pad he made. Ask around for who is the best saddle guy around. Not a salesman, but a guy who builds and repairs saddles and knows horses.
Well ladies, I'm off to the arena. Kristy called and asked if I wanted to go tonight. I have the camera in the truck:)
See you all later.

Better diet can change the horse alright.... many training issues go unnoticed if the horse doesn't have the energy to fight!
Bay is feeling his oats right now because I upped his grain. He was fat all summer, so I had cut back until this week when I saw a couple ribs when he was in the sun. The hay he is on now doesn't offer much.
See you later!
Just so disappointing though. I thought she would be a good horse.
Well, this is a bizarre outburst without other explanation. I am surprised at it as I think you are too. If I could see her and you and the whole scene I'd feel a lot more confident in finding an answer. From here, I'd just recommend doing what is safe.
No one is going to cook a horse at my house! ;~o
I was just joking. I would never eat her:')
But, I have heard they taste just like chicken...... : )
~sigh~ Well I'm back. My truck wouldn't start this evening, so I just went down and watched Kristy work Rowdy. Even took the camera, no disc. Not my night I guess:)
Becky
Bummer run of luck!
