The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

I used to watch severe weather shows all the time when I was a kid and I would scare myself so badly that I wouldn't go to bed. lol. It was a morbid fascination. I got caught up in a tornado once too. Scariest thing ever.

Well, I'm all grown and still fascinated by storms:')

I was just reading some more posts about our "cowboy" president rescuing his secret service agent in Chile. That just don't get that calling him a cowboy or a John Wayne is not an insult to us. Now he's being compared to a Clint Eastwood character.

Bob(the biter) is a roan. He got that name coz he came out of his mama wanting to bite on everything. My husband gave that name. We tried other names, but that one had kinda stuck.

Mornin'.

I was reading through last night's posts about severe storms. We are storm freaks in this family and we're under the gun today. There is a spring like system coming together for this afternoon, could get interesting.

There are lots of good weather related sites with tornado videos and pictures. I try to stay off of them because I sit here for too long when I need to be doing chores.

How are you this morning?

Pretty good, other then the fog is really thick here this morning.

I may go down to the building an do some work. The front windows have tinting on them that is old and needs scraping off. Looks to be an all day thing.

That sounds like a hard job. Is there a chemical you can use that will make the job go easier?

There is a spray that softens the adhesive, but you have to get the film off first. I don't think there is an easy way to do it other then alot of elbow grease.

I hate those kinds of jobs. We've been living in this house for about 3 years and I've been trying to get my shower clean ever since. It's all clear glass and the soap scum is like etched in and I can't get it off. I've tried everything. I guess I'll just have to replace the whole thing. I wish the previous owners would have taken care of the dang shower.

All I can say definitively is 'I don't think so'. She didn't seem to know how when I taught her to ground drive.

Good morning everyone!

I love storms on TV.... we hardly ever get any really big storms, but once or twice a winter we'll get 60 mph winds and that is indeed a major storm in tall fir country. I am surrounded by big trees, and we are in a cardboard trailer house ;~D

It gets a little nervous... especially when you can hear limbs and even an occasional tree breaking in the woods out back ;~D

Hearing tree limbs breaking would definitely be a heart stopping experience in any dwelling. Here in Texas we don't have the gargantuan trees that you have but they can still do tremendous damage if they land on your house or car.

I'm in tornado alley but right on the edge of it so we don't get as many sleepless nights as someone living right in the middle of it. We definitely get some prayer inducing weather a few times a year, though.

Sometimes you have to just sit on the couch and pray ;~D

The barn is a much more substantial structure, with huge beams. I think sometimes it would be the safer palce to ride out storms ;~D

I've only been in one weather situation where I got really nervous. We were at an outdoor party at a house that was located in the center of sod fields, very open. Suddenly a storm blew up and we had a clear view of the sky, clear view of the wall cloud.

The house next door to the one we were at had a storm shelter, that's were my family went:). We left the door open and watched the storm pass. It was only really bad for a few minutes.

Good morning, cloudy, grey in the 40s here. No snow yet :(. The radio station that has most of the conservatives up here in Chicago, WLS, had a commercial a while back, it was funny. It would go: "You remember what talk radio used to be like?" Then these 2 old men would start talking about the weather "Is it raining by you? It is raining by me. How about south of the city, is it raining there?" And on it when with these cute little old man voices with old names like Wilbert and Henry and then a wife down in the kitchen would yell, "Is it raining by Mabel's?" This IS a great country!!!

LOL.

The tempratures don't seem so cold this morning, but it's still gray dreary and foggy.

Good Morning! When does hunting season stop for you? We tend to wear orange vests when we go out this time of year. I can't remember if it's still deer season in this state. Have to ask my dad, he'd know.
Sunny and in the mid forties today so far. It might reach 50. That would be nice. Figures that all the decent weather is on a week that I'm not going to be riding! :-)
