Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Is that the young black man who lives out West? I saw an article about him awhile back.
I do think life would be easier on someone who was disabled from birth.
No, he's a young good-lookin' white guy from Decatur, Texas, which is near me. I haul whatever horse I'm having trouble with to his place.
I don't know anybody who lost a limb after they were grown - I've been temporarily disabled with my torn ACL (leg immobilized) but of course you know and everybody else knows that that's just temporary, so it's a different situation.

I've seen that guy too! He's amazing. But I was thinking that he was Native American.
There's a girl from Germany or somewhere like that who is a Pat Parelli instructor now who is a paraplegic. She rides a huge Fresian. He follows her motorized wheelchair every where she goes when she's not on him, and when she wants to ride, they have a special saddle for him with hand holds and he comes up and lays down beside her wheelchair for her to get on and off. I saw her in person at Equitana one year and it was so cool it gave you goose bumps. There wasn't a dry eye in the place.
I don't think he's native American, if he is he's never mentioned it. He certainly doesn't look it.
Oh, sorry. You weren't referring to Michael, were you? I'm not familiar with the black or native american guy out west.
What is RDF?
After talking about my right finger yesterday, I was holding the baby yesterday and he bounced in my arms and jammed my 5th left finger. I felt the knuckle crack. I'm left handed and it's sore as heck.
I just got back. I rode her all around dogs. She's coming home tomorrow. No rain here yet but it's muddy.
I think a lot depends on the determination of the person. I've worked with people that just give up and people who are determined they are going to do more than they ever did before. We are finally getting a free standing rehabilitation facility in our community. My old boss and I used to sit around dreaming about this. Way before I knew you she was wanting a pool and I wanted a stable:') This one will have a pool....:')
Nice! How did she do around the dogs?
Good but you could tell she was watching them. He told me she never spooked but raised her leg up once with a threatened kick when she first arrived.

Her keeping an eye on them is good. They're paying attention. If they keep track of where the dog is then he won't startle her.

We've been out today buying the stuff I need to get the building ready for the T shirt store:). Racks, hangers, sales recipt book, etc.
I've got the order forms filled out for shirts and transfers for Mack to call in tomorrow. I think this may really happen. We are shooting for next Sat. for sure a week from tomorrow as opening day.

Where are you from Becky?....our hunting season here in Ohio opens the Sat. after Thanksgiving. Also is anyone familiar with the Teste Verde Dude Ranch. I'm trying to get my husband more interested in horses and thought this might be fun.
