Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
A thirty second ride? What happened?
I have absolutely no idea. I can think of a few things that might have been bothering her but she just started bucking. When I fell off the last time I could imm go back and figure out what I did wrong. No clue this time. She just started bucking. All 4 feet off the ground. I kept my seat for about 4-5 of them. When I let go to use both hands to get her head up I lost my balance and went forward. Eddie said probably a good thing caz she was going in a circle and her back end low and slipping.
That looks like a hotdog/marshmellow evening :')
Huh? Are you hurt? Right when you got on? Has she ever done anything remotely like that? Where were you?
I'm ok. Just real sore. I like my right side :') She had been fussy again in the barn but nothing major, I didn't think. It was muddy and misting. I was by the dirt parking lot about 20 feet from the barn. We were going to ride on the stable road. Eddie held her head and I did a perfect mount. She was fine. She tried to follow Eddie back to the barn to get Okie. I turned her head back and she walked about 3-4 feet and then she went nuts.
"I didn't ride yesterday. Company. I did ride Sarah Lee for about 30 seconds today though :'("
Are you hurt?
I'm sorry. Hope you're not hurt.
Becky
A temper tantrum of that magnitude out of her is really surprising, unless that is why she was let go from the dude ranch. Any clues of this before? Did the trainer there see it?
Are you sure her saddle fits well and is correctly positioned?
Just sore but my pride really hurts :') It was a graceful fall and I know I stayed on 8 seconds but I ruined it by sitting on a bucket in the rain, crying like a baby and using every project adjective I know, afterwards.
I agree, that is a cooking campfire. What's for dinner??
Can't get close enough to it yet for marshmallows :~)
Your pride is easy to fix, but anything else may take some time. : )
Offhand, it sounds like she threw a hissy fit because she did not want to leave her barn buddy.
I don't blame you a bit for that.... and I bet I know even more bad words.
Nothing like a meal cooked over a campfire, de-licious.... : )
I suspect you're right, but I am exploring a pain reaction first because it is the easiest to fix. I don't think Cindy wants or should be taking on the danger of this magnitude of disobedience if that is all that caused it.
I knew I needed to get back on but not til I knew what was wrong. I went and got the owner. She was shocked. She didn't want me to ge back on today. She said it was too dangerous with rain and mud and she couldn't risk getting on herself because she just had knee surgery. Tomorrow the trainer going to check her out.
She told me to longe her. She said she didn't care how muddy the round pen was. I ran the crap out of her. Just did it free style. After a few minutes I realized what I was doing and felt really bad about myself and stopped. I wasn't longing her to ride again. I was punishing her and she probably had no idea why. She was fiesty though. Throwing that butt up. Anyway I just put her back in the pasture.
"Thought" she was going to be separated from her barn buddy.
I agree with Hair and Ing. Hissy fit because she was leaving the barn without a buddy. Dude string horses are notorious about that. The first horse we bought for me years ago was a dude string horse. I had trouble with her in the same way. I got rid of her. It was too much for me to handle at that stage of my riding career.
Becky
She sure as hell can't be a school horse now .
