The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Easy! We are getting pretty good at explaining!

The pictures have to be online someplace. There are free places to load pictures, and www.snapfish.com and www.yorkphoto.com both work really well, and have an easy interface for loading pictures. They are free for a year, and they only want you to buy something once in awhile to keep your account, like prints or a mousepad with your photo on it. They have cool stuff to buy, but you can worry about that later.

Anyway.... upload the pics there, and when they are uploaded, right click the pic and view the "Properties" of the pic. Right click on the web address 'url' for the pic, 'select all' and then 'copy'. Then paste that code (all of it, they can be long) into this 'image source' html code:

<img src="http:\\url here">

The code to post one of my earlier photos:

If you were to right click the pic above, the properties of the pic are all this gibberish: http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B8748323232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2329%3D%3A3%3A%3D768%3DXROQDF%3E23235%3C5996677ot1lsi

when you type the img src code, it looks like this:

<img src="http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B8748323232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2329%3D%3A3%3A%3D768%3DXROQDF%3E23235%3C5996677ot1lsi">

It sounds complicated, but take it step by step and it really isn't.

Oh God, I love that pic. It is SO cute! How the heck did you do that? Is that a blanket? Homemade? can it be bought? did you do it in photoshop or just a good old can of spray paint? That is SO cute!

How about this. Why dont we use this forum as sort of a Horse Trainers Network as well as a place for political junkies to meet. We can network, share "behavioral" problems (of the equine variety) or just trade tips on how to work through various stages of lunging to getting your horse under saddle to jumping, reigning, cutting, whatever you're into.

Maybe even a side Horse Trainers Network Thread (just a thought, I still havent figured out how Freep is set up) separate from the purely political stuff.

It might come in handy when it comes to having to call in the Cavelry. At least our horses will all be trained not to spook at the sight of ugly, marble tossing liberals.

Let's try it.
<
< This is King Impressive, AKA, Tuff. AQHA stallion. Grandson of Impressive. I've had him for a long time. I used to use him for calf roping, but he got hurt about five years ago and now all we do is trail ride. He's solid on trail and almost bomb proof.
<
< This is my newest horse. His name is Lend Me A Dollar. 3 year old AQHA registerd gelding. Lineage includes Two Eyed Jack, Zippo Pat Bars and Watch Joe Jack. He's still pretty green and needs a lot of work, but he promises to be a solid horse with a great disposition.

Here's another shot of Tuff.
<
< Thanks for the help. Maybe I'll get the hang of this.

That is kindof what we do. We talk about the issues we are having... and the rest of us offer tips and ideas. Sometimes we have different approaches, and maybe ~one~ of them will work!

He's pretty.... looks like shiny brass!

Glad you got the hang of it! We love pictures on the thread. Becky will be thrilled when she gets back from her trial ride that there are so many new folk with pictures! And a QH person to boot! She gets tired of my Arab horse prolly ;~D

She has a buckskin QH stud she'll show ya.

Your old guy looks great for 24. I mostly only ride my old Bay on trail now too. He is retired from endurance racing on 50 and 100 mile races with a previous owner. When he was younger he belonged to a friend and I always wanted to find him and get him back. He's got a great heart and he's bomb proof too, as bomb proof as an Arab that likes to snort at things can be! ;~D

Oh well, that didn't work.

"Then past that code (all of it) into the image source "html" code". ????

I have no idea I guess what to do at that point.

the URL is correct, ... you just need to enclose it in the "img src" code up there!

It's an adorable picture!

"you just need to enclose it in the "img src" code up there!"

What does it mean to enclose? and where is "up there"?

Then I will go away - I promise.

Thanks but it is not my picture. This is the picture I was looking for earlier. It is a picture that appeared in a newspaper shortly after 9-11. It is a perfect symbol for the mood of the nation, even to this day.

I meant up in my post that explained it to the cowboy at You need to use the HTML code that says "picture" It looks like this:

<img src="http://images.snapfish.com/33%3B8748323232%7Ffp63%3Dot%3E2329%3D%3A3%3A%3D768%3DXROQDF%3E23235%3C5996677ot1lsi">

That example is the code for my picture, not yours, but you get the idea?

And don't go away! You're about to get it! :~D
