The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

LOL, for the surgery. The mare that I rode a short time today. She'll never win a beauty contest but she is sweet natured - just needs some work before I can handle her. As you can see, she's scared to death and travels with her head way to high. The the picture I'm proudest of - Kim on Fanny

It was either him or me but I hadn't noticed doing this with other horses. It felt like the saddle slipping to the left but it was in good alignment. It was like I had to shift my weight far right to feel centered. It was just with walking too come to think about it. When we were trotting I didn't notice it. I did have a wither pad under my blanket and I thought it might have been that at first but my saddle never moved. Standing in the stirrups fixed it each time though.

I took a head shot of Prez and put a wreath around it. I am printing up postcards with a picture on the front and a very short Christmas letter on one side of the back. That is going to be my Christmas Card. Much cheaper to mail too.

Dadgum, you live in a pretty area! Look at those mountains in the background. Is that a town at the foot of the mountains?

Well, shall I admit that we cheated the dog and the cat in to the picture?

I drew our little hats!

Here's the original pic... We moved Bay over to tighten it up.

Just needed that cat, and this very pitiful pic of Gidget ;~D

I used to have a cat that farted.

If I had that cat now my dogs would be following around behind him anticipating a warm treat.

That is the town of Stagecoach. It's really very small but lots of nice people.

It's really hard not to have a song in your heart when you look out and see these mountains all around. There is something about the desert where the light just paints the most beautiful colors that are constantly changing.

(Yes, I love it here)

I was just emptying my tackroom litter box (I have some new kittens) and the dogs follow right behind me. I swear, I don't get it. They always have food available and I give them store bought doggie treats. Why do I waste my money??

Boy it is impressive - did that take a long time to do it? It looks like you had to cut out Bay and move him, cut out both dog and cat and place them (how did you make it look natural) and then paint on the hats.

How small is Stagecoach? Can you go there to do grocery and clothes shopping or do you have to go to a bigger town?

Just for grins... here is the Christmas card from the year before.... Before ecurbh was in the picture, and when my other two dogs were still living.

Thank you! yes, natural wavy hair... the kind of hair that gets way too big if it isn't kept under control!
