Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Me too! My plan is to 'retire' into running a boarding stable and I really look forward to that. Find a nice spot and spend the day concerned with management of the place.
Like in a saddle or on a bale of hay. All I need to do is find a good country girl to help out with the chores. I can't get excited about these city gals. Too much make-up and cosmetic surgery. I believe 'high maintenance' is the term.
We'll hope you find one! Keep an open mind, I found a city boy that is picking up on the farm life pretty quick. He hardly ever says "ew" any more ;~D
Yeah, that was what I've been doing, and watching Scarborough Country from last night.
That funeral resembled more of a circus. Of course, I think those people's culture is different then ours in regards to funerals, but that did seem extreme even for them.
It's cold here again today. JP is coming over for awhile later, so I've been trying to get things straightened up a bit. My house is not baby proof, one of these days I may get around to that:)....

Good morning,
My son is 32, stepson is 31. Both sons and one daughter-in-law have birthdays in March. We celebrate all of them at the same time too.
Hope you all have a good day - we're sitting in the clouds again today. Really beautiful with the sun shining through on select mountains.
LOL. It is funny to watch those not use to that sort of thing.
I had a homeschool group come out to see the horses once. About 12 kids and 4 adults. The first time the horse pooped I was surprised that it was the adults that went into convulsions more then the kids. They really went nuts when I took the side of my foot and spread it out:) (of course I did it on purpose just to see the reaction)
I remember once when I took the kids to the zoo. We were watching the monkeys. When one pooped all the kids would giggle and point. My kids were a bit amused, I was amused that they noticed and commented on how silly it was for the others to act so silly over poop. You can definitly spot city people by their reaction to animals pooping. Becky
Wishing you a great six weeks :)
He is a favorite. I drive to work everyday listening to him - it's hard not to start the day with a smile if you start it with Chris LeDoux.
It's a little chilly today but probably only in the 60's. Usually when a cold front rolls in we have a storm when the air mixes but this just kind of eased in. I hope it stays nice because I want to ride tomorrow.
The interal fuse out on my car player. My husband going to take it apart this weekend but I hadn't realized how much I enjoyed listening to my music in the car. It's like sitting down at the table to eat. I feel like I have to have something else to do.:')
This is a really cool site for fans.
We've got a high of 42 predicted here. The sun will be shining though and with no humidity, it feels much warmer. I'm hoping tomorrow is nice because I want to try riding a mare we got this summer to see what her gaits are like.
I keep thinking it's possible she can be a replacement for my old riding mare that I had to put down. With fibromyaglia and degenerative bone disease, I can't handle anything but a smooth ride anymore :) My old mare's daughter is busy raising babies right now, and she's the only one that was smooth enough to ride.
Anyway, the new mare is back in shape, foal has been weaned and farrier due today. This will be her third trimming so it should have her feet back where they should be.
Oh gosh no. I will pass on those kind of puzzles. Computer games are my pass time. Takes off the stress, killing little monsters. That, and reloading shotgun shells.
Well, I'm off to eat Chinese food. My hubby taking me to lunch:')
Oh my, I didn't realize that. He's had more than his share of troubles. I do love his music, have all of his CD's and that's always my Christmas present from a neighbor - the latest Chris LeDoux.
Hey - Peterson verdict comin' up....
The fog has lifted now and they got their blankets off for awhile. I've been digging.
How do you get them to leave their blankets intact? In freezing weather with snow coming down, sometimes some of our horses will leave them on, maybe. The rest of the time, it's like we put them on them solely for them to have fun tearing them apart. The only thing that sometimes (about 50% of the time) survives are the sleazies.
These are Weatherbeetas, and they hold up really well. I'd be reluctant to ever buy any other kind. Mine wear them 24-7 as the temps get colder, all winter. Bay and the pony's blankets are going on their third winter, and holding up just fine! Each of them at one time or another have caught and torn a strap loose, usually when they are turned out in the woods where there is lots to catch them on, but they have an elastic breakaway on the strap that is easy to re-sew when they do.
Cyn's is WAY too big, I don't like the way in fits her, but she came with it free, and it'll do for this winter.
Their old Weatherbeeta blankets I had before these were still functionally good, just faded, and I still use them when it is really cold and I double up. Cyn came with a quilted stable blanket to go under hers too when it is freezing.
