The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

http://www.haflingerhorses.com/ Well, I cannot get this link to copy and highlight itself but a ways down they list the standards. Cezar was only $500 but I did fall in love with him. He is our first and only horse right now. We will probably get another older quite broken horse in spring. It is freezing here in Chicago, the wind is unbelievably cold, ouch.

Oh, I wanted to tell you that when I started back to Aikido I found I had retained most of it but I'm really rusty on my forward rolls (and I wasn't that great to begin with). I kept falling on my face and he told me to focus further out to where I wanted to go than where I was at and I related the horse story. He loved it. Now he talks horses with rolls :')

About my son and grandson's birthday's so close: my son's wife's birthday is in Nov. too. A week before Charlies.

My daughter, SIL, and their sons' birthday is all in Oct. :)

Makes for easy to remember and celebrate. We do them all together in each month.

Becky

Morning girls. I'll be traveling back up to South Carolina next week this time for Thanksgiving. Hope my horses and dogs remember me. It's been six weeks this time.

It'll be a little like Christmas with all the stuff that I've ordered and had shipped up there. Tack, DVD's, CD's, winter/riding clothes, books, pig ears and probably some things I forgot about. Online shopping is killing me.

The first few days I'll be busier that a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Farrier on Saturday, pick up hay on Sunday, vet on Monday and mowing, riding and general cleanup in between.

Can't wait. :~)

Absolutely. I live for that stuff. I'm one of those guys that works for fun and has fun working. But not my 'day' job. I'm not one of those kind of workaholics. I could drop this in a skinny minute and never look back. I'm talking bout the kind of work around the farm, in the fresh air, the smell of the horses, the dogs tagging along, doing repairs on the fence or barn with a view of the mountains over my back pasture.

(Big Irish sigh)

That's my retirement plan. Makes my eyes misty thinking about it.

You certainly have a beautiful place. I would miss all my animals, and home too. It must be so hard to be away, for so long. Are you still in Florida, doing the tornado clean up?

The things we do to enjoy the things we love.

Chris Ledoux has a song on his "Cowboy" CD called Song of Wyoming. Don't know if you've ever heard it, but the CD is inexpensive and that one song is worth the price.

He's been around a long time. I think he's from the Cody, Wyoming area. Used to ride broncs in the rodeo.

If you like cowboy music, songs about rodeo and western life, you'll like Chris Ledoux.

Yeah, from the tape I figured he was a rodeo rider. I hadn't thought much more about it until you brought his name up. I'll check it out. I'm more of a contemporary country and western music listener but my husband into the old stuff.
