The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

From what I gather the media is not sure why. They are speculating that she (it is a she), did some investigating of the case on her own. Like getting on the internet, or going to the Petersons house, etc.

I hope he gets a home... But it didn't have to be yours, much as he seemed to choose you. I don't trust the breed. That story was a riot that he came in with the plumber [right?] and you both thought he belonged to the other.

I hope I didn't offend him. I was just teasing.

I'm like you, I got tired of all the sex trails.

Got the new rack in place and moved them around so they are as spread out as they can get! It's tighter than ideal quarters, with three hay racks in the lean to. But hopefully they'll adapt and we can waste less hay than we've been wasting with piles on the ground.

The pound is going to keep the dog awhile and then they said they would have no problems adopting him out.

FWIW -

Got a recipe for prevention of sand colic (for those of you in sandy areas.)

4 Cups Flax Seed
1 Gallon Water
1 Cup Bran

Bring water to a boil, add flax seed. Cook until the consistancy of oatmeal. Let stand overnight. Mix 1 Cup of bran with 1/4 of mix from pan. Feed until gone, morning and night. Repeat in 60 to 90 days.

I haven't tried this yet, plan on cooking it up this weekend. I'll have to make one batch to figure out how much I need to make for 13 horses. The person who gave me the recipe swears you can see the sand in the manure.

I'll save this. Not much sand around my stables though.

Duchess- I'll keep that in my list of recipies for horses. Thank you very much for sharing that.

Well, I went to a really nice bluegrass/folk music concert tonight. The Jake Armerding Band. They're excellent. I saw them last year, and just had to go again. He's from Boston, and it's him, and his dad, and a banjo player from MIT. (Quite a mix) If anyone is interested in that sort of thing, you can check out this You'll have to forgive me, I'm a bit of a groupie. :-)

Heh...

Shadows grow so long before my eyes
And they're moving across the page
Suddenly the day turns into night
Far away.... from the city
