The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

IMO, too many people in jail. I think we did the best thing about crediting her for time served and kicking her out of the country. If we could keep them from coming back I think we ought to send all the illegals in our jails back to their countries. I also (ducking) don't think anyone should be in jail for a non violent charge including drugs.

I agree that we ought to re-think they reasons and types of people who get jailed, and who gets released early to make room. :~\

Alright Becky.... Now you've got me watching Court TV eagerly awaiting this new development on this Peterson case ;~D

ecurbh has gone outside to work on forestry again :~D

Let me ask all in good natured debate:)

How would you have felt if it had been your kid/grandkid she accidently shook to death?

Jails should be, IMO, punishment for breaking the laws of the land. Murder, even if accidental is breaking the law. Jails, IMO, should not be rehabiltation centers, but PUNISHMENT.

If she actually caused the head injuries from shaking the baby, that's criminal. Everyone knows that shaking a baby is a sign of losing one's temper and can do great harm. I thought it was shown to be possible the baby might have fallen back on the stair or in the tub, and not shaken. Like I said... I barely remember the case.

Obviously we'd be crushed if it was our child, but that is why juries are persons not personally involved. There can't ever be satisfaction if it is your child. There is no fairness or closure in punishment, much as they try to seek it there.

I would want her to fry probably but that's understandable I think from a family viewpoint and why we have courts. IMO she should have been punished. Was 9 months enough? I don't know. I differ a little from hair on this case because unless she has had a change of heart she has a hx now of violence and agressiveness when things don't go her way. A child died.

~chuckling~

He hasn't articulated what he resents about it, I think he thinks it's like a big soap opera or chick flick drama type thing. He likes detective stories, like Columbo or mysteries.... but he doesn't see this as like that, where I do.

I quit watching during that neighbor trial where the little girl was killed. I got where I could not stand to listen to the reporter.

I quit when it seemed the all cases they chose to air seemed to have a perverted or sexual element to them, especially with little kids. I don't want to get into details of that kind of thing, I think there is a big element of perverted or voyueristic curiosity to watch that for entertainment.

I liked the other, less perverted kind of cases, that subway shooter, OJ, the nanny case, and a couple of other murder trials that weren't little girls. I don't like to watch those.

All this anticipation and all they did was dismiss a juror and seat one of the alternates?

Gak!

Me, I just prefer the FOX car chases and animal rescues:') Speaking of animals remember that dog that showed up. My DIL called the pound and he wasn't there when I got home. Well yesterday he was back and JJ playing with him and he excitedly scratched his arm. My son loaded him up and took the dog to the pound today. He has a friend that might want him but I want the dog watched for 10 days even though he didn't bite JJ. They can check him out at the pound. He's just too hyper to keep at my house around the little ones. Everyone likes him though:')

I'll bet the judge put a gag order on her till this thing is settled. At least that is what I would think would happen.
