Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
I swear...I kid you not...I was just returning to FR from requesting it at the library!!
I think it would be a good video to watch since he's studying the time period.
I know what you mean. I'd probably never stop riding if someone would just saddle for me.
I think I'm starting to get a bit of an urge to go ride now.....maybe:), still thinking about it.
You all still going to that clinic in Oct?
Becky
LOL...it's a great movie.
Let me know what he thinks of it.
Tell him to be sure and watch the part where Cagney is dancing on the dock to the music Give My Regards to Broadway. There is one small second where he taps on the side of a barrel. Charlie that that was the neatest thing:) We still hoot when we see it.

Around my house we have "Grannys toys". They are only allowed to touch them when I let them. The things I have out are not like valuable antiques or anything and I don't really get upset if an accident happens. I just want mine to learn to look and not touch and when they do handle fragile stuff to be careful.
I will! I really love the movie!
Here's a good site about natural hoof balance that I've found really interesting. I found out about it one day when I was watching a Dennis Reis show on RFDTV. I printed all off and am going to give a copy of it to my farrier. It helped me to understand what they mean by hoof "balance". Of course, these folks sell special shoes, but the balancing principles are the same no matter what, even if the horse is barefoot.

Anyway if I let it go he agrees within a month to go on this (gasp) organized trail ride. I'm just waiting for him to come back with "I took you to Big Bend. Not my fault they wouldn't let you ride" :')
Thanks, that looks really interesting.
Becky
This must be a GUY thing. Women seem to be willing to listen and learn from anybody but guys seem to want to go it on their own. My husband's not a horse person so he makes fun of my addiction to all things Parelli, but I don't care. I'm doing it anyways. (so THERE!) ;o)
Well, I hope you get to go somewhere, sometime:), especially since you bought a trailer.
If it was me, I'd just go without him:).
Becky
That's been discussed too. Regardless of the opinions of some, I don't need a baby sitter:') I'll just surprise yall with pictures one of these days.
LOL...good for you:)
Truthfully, I think the horses is what generated my streak of independence. Before I got horses I didn't do my of anything unless he was with me. I knew if I waited on Mack I wouldn't go much, because he wasn't as into horses as I was. So it was a do it by myself thing or not at all. On the other hand I have tried to be careful not to take advantage. Like I don't ride much on the weekends, maybe Sat. mornings, if he is working. But even if we don't have anything planned except watch TV, I try to sit here with him. Except when I competed, and then I only went about 4-5 times a year.
Becky
And speaking of riding, I think I will go climb on one now. I think I'm over my funk:). See ya later.
Becky
You sound like me. My husband doesn't ride at all. We both work, so the only time I can ride is on the weekends. I try not to push my luck too. I don't ride EVERY Saturday and I don't go off on the weekend or week long horse camping trips that all my horse buddies go on, even though I'd LOVE to. I sure do wish I was as lucky as Hair to have a husband who rides, but I'll be darned if I'll sit home and not ride at all because I don't.
My family knows up front that if you bring your little tornados in and let them go wild, I can and will slap their hands or swat their butts, even if they "have never been spanked". (Those are my favorites :') My rules .My house.
Well yes and no. I think everyone needs their space once in a while. Sometimes it's nice just to go by myself and not have to worry about anyone. Even tho on camping trips that Mack has gone on with me he always tells me not to worry about him, he'll take care of himself, I still do:). I still feel like I have to make sure he is fed, and not bored silly. We do lots of things together, so I've gotten accustomed to and enjoy the horse thing as MY thing:).
How long have you been married?
Becky
We'll have to see how it plays out! ecurbh and I are too 'new' and riding for him is still pretty driven by me... I can't imagine at this point that he would go do it alone if I didn't want to, it's something we'll do together. But someday maybe!... Eventually, he'll be able to take more ownership when everything doesn't feel like a 'lesson' and the horse and the decisions are his own and not just mine. I have always wanted someone to ride with me, I don't like to ride alone, even at home. When I lived alone I wondered how long it would be till someone stopped if there was a saddled horse with no rider grazing in the pasture ;~D Luckily, I never had to test it!
I need my quiet time and space when I'm working on something but he does too but it's fun to ride together and sometimes we are the only ones around so it's probably safer for us also. When I couldn't get up, no one near and I had concerns at first about how long before anyone noticed too.
There was supposed to be something on FOX today about FR, Hilary, and brooms:')
