Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

No but over the last 4 years he picked up a lot more votes. Maybe just wishful thinking on my part.
That is true and I hope the trend will continue in future elections. The 2006 house elections will be a good test to see if the trend will keep going.
Do you know what is in Rimadyl? I just started my lab back on it tonight. I didn't give them this summer but she can hardly walk now that it's getting chilly. I did a search but all I could find was what it was for . I'm just wondering because someone told me it was just a high priced motrin.

Rimadyl is a brand name for carpofen, which is an NSAID (Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) It's like Motrin because it's an NSAID, but it's not Motrin because motrin is actually ibuprofen. Naxproxen, and acetominophen (sp) and asprin are all NSAIDS.
Thanks.ASA might be too strong on a regular basis but can you give dogs motrin? Is Rimadyl more effective? I don't have my PDR here. Is carpofen an OTC?
If I remember correctly, dogs can handle buffered asprin,
(I think) but there's always the chance of stomach and gastrointestinal ulcers. It would help if you gave the meds. with food. Have you tried to give your dog glucosemene suppliments?
Yeah, I've given her ASA before but I'm concerned that on a routine basis it might thin her blood too much or as you say mess her gi track up. Tell me about glucosemene suppliments though. Sounds sweet:')
My lab did real well on Rimadyl on an 'as needed' basis...
For a lab, he was lucky in the arthritis department compared to other labs I have had, was that because of Rimadyl or because of his genes? I don't know. But I used it as needed, more often in winter than summer, and would give it for a week or so, then back off until he needed it again.
For a Labrador, it's about a dollar a pill. Not too bad unless they start needing it regularly and twice a day. My little Zulu was on it too, and for a little dog it's less.
Glad to hear your report on your ride, Beaker... I haven't had much to report, it's been gloomy outside and we haven't ridden. We dug a drainage trench for some excitement this weekend, which tells you something about our weekend! :~D
Well of course she's gonna make me look bad now:') It usually takes about two weeks before I see a difference. This morning she was jumping and running around. Go figure. Maybe I ought to take one of her happy pills too:') I'm gonna keep her on it for a couple of weeks. She has 100 mg tabs and gets a half two times a day. I'm paying about a 1.50 a pill but I saw I could get them cheaper on line.
Why would someone geld an 8 y/o horse? Wouldn't he already have all his stud characterisics by then or is that why?
