The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's always drug related too. I have even shared my opinion that I don't believe non violent people should be in jail for drug use. Sigh. I'm just asked if I would enforce current laws though and picked.

I've got 10 days to call them. The last time I was summoned by the county and federal at the same time.

The riding is going very well, actually, thanks for asking :-) It's been nasty these past two weeks, so I haven't gotten much done. I was supposed to schedule a lesson for today, but my trainer went hawk hunting. So either she was looking for a hawk to capture to hunt with, or she already has and is going out to play. :-) She left me the message the morning.

How are things going with you and Sarah Lee? I desperately need my own horse again.. *sigh*

Don't you just love voice messages? You still have your horse? Maybe you could barter for pasturing. Lock service or something:') I hated it when I didn't have my own.

Things are going well with Sarah Lee. She's smart and responding really well. They took her on a trail ride last week and she did fine. The trainer said that she walked on the road right by barking dogs without a problem. The horse trainer that I was supposed to talk to booked up til who knows when so we have been spending a lot of time on the unexpected. I just have to "find my confidence" caz my trainer says I can handle her because she's seen me. (I just need to concentrate and not yell for my husband :') I guess

What is really cool is that she used to walk so fast and I would put her in the round pen and she would run like her tail on fire. Now she's happy just to "mosey" along and it's like do I have to trot? In the round pen with just voice I can get her to walk, trot or lunge . I'm using the rope too though caz she wants to lightly buck a few times before loping though, so I can check her. And getting her out...With Okie he whoaed when told and knew when we were finished and would follow me to the gate and wait to get clipped. Not this one. She stands. No clicking or calling moves her. I have to go put the rope on her to lead her out. Funny critters:')

I just took some more fall pictures. Let me know if you would like to see them, and I'll post them. I don't want to clutter the thread with non-horse related stuff.

Well, I can horse relate this:') Post um. Okie loves leaves. One never enough though so I can't let him eat them on the trail or he would go from tree to tree. How's that?

Not knowing any more, I'd also find it odd if two both horses decided to jump a fence. More likely they found a weak or low spot and ventured out through some easier spot. Very tragic and doesn't matter much to the family of the woman killed.

Have fun in Vegas. It's always the ones from out of state that win the Megabucks so give it a whirl.

I agree with you, that they found a place to get out of. There will be an investigation, I am sure.

Sorry, to hear that you two are still under the weather. My household, all have the coughs and sneezies too. Thankfully, it has been in the 60's and sunny for the past few days.
