Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Just has to make the ride with best time if possible, best condition if possible. He vetted in at both stops with all a's but I don't know if he'll make best condition. He cut a foot slightly on the weeds and Tracey treated it with iodine and antibiotic after the vet check. At the best of condition, the vet was upset that she had done that (this is an hour after he'd come in). We'll see tonite at the awards.
That is a cool gate - what is he making it out of?
No hard drive. Just a little box that hooks to the TV, and a remote keyboard.
I leave Tues. morning.
Becky
Great ride, and pictures. Good luck at the awards.
Becky
You have a nice place.
I forgot to say, the signal for the web, comes thru the phone line. You can set it up to disconnect when an incoming call is coming, so you don't miss phone calls.
Becky
I'm not sure I understand. It's thru your phone company?
I would be proud of them too:') This is in Nevada?
Yep, this is in Nevada - about 20miles from where we live.
If you think I'm proud, you should see my husband and daughter-in-law. They are walking on air :)
Thanks. He was dinged for the iodine, placed 2nd in best of condition. He still did so much better than we had hoped for on his first ride.
It looks like steel plate (according to DH). He on top of a hill in a travel home right now. A part being cut out and I though he was going to build a house but rumor has it that he's going to irrigate water down to his horses by making a water fall. We'll see. I've seen a house he built for another neighbor and he does beautiful work.
Wasn't your DIL doing this on a white horse also?
She is riding three now - her white mare, our leopard gelding, and now Sonny. Her mare is pregnant right now, so won't be campaigning again until next fall.
You'll have to take some pictures when he's done. That is the most unusual gate I have ever seen. Really awesome :)
After I posted that about the phone line it dawned on me all computers work off a phone line:). You buy a web box. Hook it to your TV, the tv is the monitor. You can't do any computing with a web tv, like run a program, just surf the net, send and receive Emails. Just like a compter without a hard drive.
Becky
I used to use my lap top before I killed it. I was planning on getting another one after Christmas but I thought I might check into this too. We really wouldn't need programs just for weekends. Something to think about.
Oh well, thanks for the pics!
We are back from our trail ride.... ecurbh's first time out on Cyn.
The area was private forest land, and we rode through recent clearcut to mature timber and everything in between. Deer country... and hunting season, hence the orange gear.
My friend Tiff is the one there on the white Arab.
Tiff's 10 year old son is on the horse right in front of ecurb h here, on the chestnut horse ecurbh rode last ride.
Us truly ;~D
I know it looks like we only rode on roads... Heh... That was the only time it was easy enough to pull out the camera. The "trails" weren't good enough ;~D
We had a really hard ride today. It was fun now that it's over, but it was much more than I wanted or was expecting, in a place completely unfamiliar to me. Long, lots of climbing, a fair amount of hairy terrain and kindof a rambunctious group. I know my friend Tiff well, and she now has some friends just like her. It was a good test for Cyn, we just weren't going to test her that much this first time out. She has some stuff to work on, she lurches and leaps around water, which was a little nerve-wracking for ecurbh the first time. Mostly small ditches and mudpuddles in the trail today, and he really didn't want to press her on it. It was nervous enough dealing with everything else. We'll work on it later. Mud puddles, we got ;~D
Bay held up very well and was still strong at the end, and I don't deserve that. It was grace that got us through, and if he wants Bute tomorrow, he can have it!
No trail? cut your own trail!
Half way through the ride we got to dead ends in the road and they knew that the road was "just up at the top of that hill" Tiff knew, because she had hunted in this spot recently on foot. So we head straight up through the woods, no trail, slash remains of the old logging activities, stumps and brush. That was the worst part. It was hard going and bad tangly footing. But Cyn did super well there in the tanglesticks and Bay watched his footing and everyone did fine. I didn't take pictures during any of these hairy parts though.... dangit. I was hopin' and prayin too much to grab camera. ;~D
Ping to the above.... trail ride pics!
Great pictures. I'm glad yall had a good time and everything went well. Congrats Ecurbh!!!!!
Heh... two people came off their horses, and they weren't us. I guess that counts as going well!
Really? What happened?
