Thread III: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1311311/posts |

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
Very good advise:)
What a roller coaster day this has been.
I just got a call from my dad that a very dear friend of his, that I saw a couple of weeks ago when I went to Kansas with him, dropped dead of a heart attack this morning.
Looks like I will be going to Pittsburg this Thurs. for another funreal. 2 in 2 days:( Doc's is Wed.
Becky
Let them get her over it. You just watch, make sure they are doing it.
Becky
You know I've been thinking....I'm wondering if that guy will even show up in the morning. He doesn't have my phone number. Cindy...you think he can find my place with just one trip out here? I never thought to even question that that might be a problem. Glad he is suppose to be here at 8, and I don't have to sit here all day wondering about it.
Becky
Good grief. Sorry. So you'll be flying to Pittsburg?
Oops! Forgot to exchange names and numbers! Did he come out once already? If he did, I bet he can find it again... or did you give him directions?
Yes. I wasn't clear on that in my long ramble ;~D Keep both of you safe that way.
No, Pittsburg Ks.:), I think we did this a few weeks ago when I went:)..It's about a 3 hour drive from here. The service is at 10. I'd probably have to leave here by 6.

The trainer says we are going to desensitize her to dogs. Not sure what that encompasses yet:')
As for her being spooky. I hadn't seen it. She would see something and get alert and an "easy Momma" settled her right down and I had taken her by some really spooky stuff. Actually it kind of scares me some of the places I took her but she seemed so bombproof.
Ah! Well, Pittsburg KS changes everything! Rough week for sure.
He followed me out here from the feed store today. Maybe on the way back he wrote the street numbers down. Like I said, at least I won't be sitting here all day, then he be a no show.
Becky
I'm just the lowly student. I'm gonna watch her do it:')
He's a guy. Maybe. I would end up in ...what's above you, Kansas? :')
The thing about horses is some just have certain boogers in them they never get over. But if you know, you can be ready. Dogs are something tho that I'd have them work on alot, if the trainer/you really think that is the problem.
Dogs are something that can show up anywhere. That's one reason I like having a dog I can take with me. The horses get use to having the dog running in and out of sight.
Becky
I remember you said Eddie had no problem finding us after one trip here.
Becky
OK - crowhopping a several times is not just a startled jump. My post isn't all that helpful then ;~D Sometimes what starts out small can snowball on ya if your reaction to the first thing makes things worse, like if you goosed her to hang on after she started.... But even that needs the trainer to help solve it.
There's nothing lowly about being a beginner:) Everyone has been there.
You stay safe.
Becky
Goosing... Well yeah and grabbing and bouncing, flopping, yanking on the left rein (I dropped the right) and yelling:'). Not exactly conductive for calming I guess, huh? Some cowgirl lol
Crow hopping is what horses do who aren't ~real~ good at bucking, who kindof half do it. It's a term for distinguishing between hopping up and down and going vertical with full extention bucking like a bronc.
Lots of times, the rider will say he bucked like a bronc, and the observer will say he crowhopped. ;~D Always feels worse for the rider than it looks.
