Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads . And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in . There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news . Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.
The other stalls never had outside doors, and I always thought that a fire hazard. This will be good.
Ouch :) Don't even think it.
I'm fixing to hit the sack, it's been a long day, but I just had to tell you about the trip my daughter and I took with Flat Frodo. We had the best time reading about his travels and seeing all the places he's been to. You are so creative and imaginative!! And of course, my daughter thinks Frodo is the cat's meow.
How pretty! Wouldn't it be fun to have that on a poster!
Your daughter has good taste! :~D
We had a really good time with that. He went there and back again, and he is now in my hallway for all time.
I'm sorry, that comment was really insulting, wasn't it? I also enjoy riding english but I'm lousy at it. Maybe that's the reason I think all english riding people are stuck-up, because they are always pointing at me and laughing.
Speaking of, I was riding Tuffy at a dressage barn, in an arena by the parking lot. A coke truck came in and 2 guys were unloading it right by where I was riding. Tuffy waited until we were right next to those guys then started farting to beat the band. I was too embarrased to turn around and see what those non-horse people were doing.
It has been a long day....don't know why. Just a long slow day. I think I'm just ready to start working with my own horses seriously again. I'm not sure I like riding horses for other people. Money's nice, but my poor guys have been a bit negelected.
Tomorrow I'll work Rusty good, trails and arena, then the same with Harley on Tues. Then Heather will come Wed. and they will both get road, then Rusty Thurs, Harley Sat.
That's my plan. Of course the week after we leave for 5 days for Las Vegas. Seems I get started and something always interrupts.

You must be a huge Lord of the Rings fan. We've seen the movies dozens of times and enjoy them every time. I just picked up a horse magazine today that has the story of the horse Arwen was riding when she was taking sick Frodo to her father. The girl who was Arwen's double now owns the horse. I guess she had worked with him for so long that she fell in love with him. His name is Florian.
Your barn looks great:) Thanks for the info about the saddle. I wrote it down this time:)

Brego, the Grand Prix Dressage horse who was Aragorn's mount, went home with Viggo Mortenson (Aragorn) as well. He's a lefty, but he did all his own riding, and fell in love with it.
No biggie - If you lose it, I'll look it up again for ya ;~D
I hope you have a good ride tomorrow, getting going with your own again.
I knew he bought that horse but I sure didn't know he was a Grand Prix dressage horse. Must have paid a pretty penny for that one. I think he also bought the paint horse he rode the most in Hidalgo.
That's right, he did ;~D
Looks good. So will all the stalls have second exits now?
Well, actually, they'll only have the outside exits that open into the lean-to. We can feed over the center divider into each stall without going in, so that will be cool.
We have "almost" decided to make an offer on 21 acres a mile from the stables. It's not exactly what we are looking for but it comes close. It used to be "yeah, yeah, ok" but now that Eddie riding too he's serious about wanting the horses closer. I saw he was looking at barn designs the other day :') Gonna be lots of work because we'll do everything ourselves.
Yup, Viggo bought the hidalgo horse.
Heh.... Liv Tyler (Arwen) rode a barrel on the back of a truck for all her closeups, and wasn't allowed to ride the Andalusian stallion they used for all the galloping work.
The most interesting work in the film was done with the stallion that played Shadowfax, who did all the liberty work (bridleless). I am hoping with the extended version special features DVD to see some more detail about the training that went into the horse parts :~D
The mustang paint?
