Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?
A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.
I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!
I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.
So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Our old elite country club huh? I go there for business lunch sometimes. Makes me feel young again. Lot's of transplants there now and a little too uppity for my taste :')
My husband tells me that sometimes he thinks I would be happy living in a tent:')
Don't get the wrong impression, my dad worked for the phone company. We couldn't have afforded to live there, the company paid for it. The most I remember about it was the swimming pools. We lived in a section where there weren't alot of people so we had to pool pretty much to ourselves.
I spend so much time outdoors (aside from work) that I started wondering why I even have a house. I finally decided that it's just a place to keep my stuff. So, my plan is to sell my place in about five years, buy more acres and build a barn with a small but nice apartment in it.

Oooooo thank you! I've got my list going so now I'll be better able to remember who is who.
Since the wife and I are now living in South America, we get a lot of Polo on TV from Argentina...I personally don't believe there are any better riders in the world than upper level polo players.
Here's a photo of my kid...he's just hanging out in California getting fat while we're down here...there isn't a cow made that can get away from this guy.
Hair is right, N., I don't really have much to do with Arabs, they don't generally get into the hunter-jumper or the combined training world. I don't know anybody who would be interested in a 2 year old Polish Arab, although I will certainly ask around next time I'm down at the barn. Is he trained English or Western?
My personal advice, though, would be to NOT make an important decision like this when you're under the gun. If you can find a good deal on pasture-board, that's the way I would go. If the horse is as good as you say, there will always be a buyer if you ultimately have to sell.
Another option would be to agree on a lease (be sure to decide who is responsible for all expenses and for injury or loss of the horse.) That way, it wouldn't be a forever sort of deal. Downside of course is risk of injury or loss, not to mention risk of handling by an inexpert horseman.
I think on balance I would pasture board and see if you can't get that real estate deal done.
I see that now. Eddie can't get his "comfortable" He saw some, somewhere that pivot and wants to try them. Me, I don't want to rock the boat with anything new. Funny, because we are usually just the opposite:') He also wants to change ties to the left cinch side. We use a Texas Tee with a long strap. He wants a short buckled one. That's fine but I just want him to leave my saddle alone right now. He hates how mine hangs down.
He looks huge (and beautiful). I was talking to Hair awhile back about how I went to a rodeo and it looked like the rider not doing any cueing. She was telling me that with a good horse, he knows what to do :')
I was telling her also that some stables will let you work for part of boarding. Seems that there is always work to do around here.
I have to have big rooms but I only want a cabin the next time we build. Windows completely across the back from floor to ceiling and a sun room , facing the pasture a must:')
He is a big guy, and a character, (like all horses). I walk out in a 20-acre pasture with a halter in my hand a whistle and he comes running, always ready to go to work.
We bought him as an unregistered gelding, but apparently he was involved in a divorce settlement with the wife getting the horse and the husband destroying his papers. I suspect someone dropped about $20 grand just in training him...he is incredible to ride and taught the wife and I a lot of new things. Plus, he won grand champion at halter in one of the mountain states circuits. We would take him to a show and he would do everything from western pleasure, (a class that he NEVER won a point in) to working cow horse, western riding, reining, and trail, (a class he constantly won).
I miss him every day and he'll be one of the reasons we don't stay too much longer down here.
