The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

Don't listen to that guy, that's such a typical male response. You need compassion, warmth and support, what you will get from women friends. You don't need "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" crap you will get from men.

Tuffy, Thank you, I swear I just want to hug you. I mean why not just "cowboy up" and cough up a kid. I'll give Mr. Compassionate Conservative a break because it's clear his reading comprehension somehow got in the way of digesting the facts but imo his response was neither.

Your horses are beautiful. Before you breed your mare, investigate "lethal white" genes. I don't think your mare is one that you have to worry about but I can't remember. The paint people on the board will know. Small fun show today - Let Your Hair Down Jackpot Show. No points, just payback depending on placing. No show clothes. All of the horses there (and there weren't a lot) were acting oddly. I guess maybe the smoke from the California wildfire. Young lady in the trail class had her horse go ballistic and throw her. We've seen the horse at previous shows and it's calm and well mannered normally. We just showed in the halter classes and western pleasure. Husband and daughter-in-law on our two geldings. Beginning of the wreck, shocked us all.

Hi all.... back in now from working on stalls all day.... didn't actually get to frame the doors because we got slowed down by moving some electrical outlets and wires and switches out of the way and planning out what to get and such.... But Dad is staying over so we'll get to do it probably in the morning.

Cindy, your horses are looking great!

There are pictures posted above of some very nice horses, if your interested. And I'm going to post some from the ride I took today of the beginning of trees turning for fall. These pictures are just from around where I live:

First picture I have a question about tho. I've noticed this bush every year and the berries look like blue berries, but I think this is the wrong time of year for blue berries to be ripening. Any one know what they are?

My Dad thinks that is a blueberry bush. He says to eat one... and if you feel good afterwards, eat two... if you don't get sick, eat a bowlful, and if you still feel good, it's really a blueberry.

Helpful, huh? ;~D

That bottom picture is definately a ride that is ~not~ going to end well. If you know her name, I bet she'd love to have a copy of that ;~D

Yeah, a real card:)

But I don't care for blueberries. In the produce stores around here blueberries are always sold in the spring. Do blue berries that grow in the wild ripen later?

The creek I ride thru. It's dried up quite a bit, usually it's alot deeper.

There are 3 different places I cross it.

Maybe, or the blueberries in the spring come from further south somewhere.

Is she ok?

I read a little about the gene problem. This is an if and in the future. Just something the trainer brings up.

I though Sarah Lee firming out good but she looks puny up against that other mare, to me.

I couldn't find her which means she will probably call me out tomorrow. She said Sat or Sun and I wanted today. She knows I don't like to ride on Sunday.

One last one that has a story:

These 2 rocks are on a pretty good incline down to the creek.See how they make a "V". Well 2 times, once going up, and once comeing down, the horse I was riding, not today, got it's foot caught in that V. Once the shoe got pulled off completely, but both times it really gave the horse a jerk to get it's foot hung. The down hill one was really hairy...uh, no offence Hair:)
