The FreeRepublic Saddle Club thread - Thread TWO!

Posted on 09/18/2004 6:56:23 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Free Republic has a lot of horse people that have found each other on other threads…. And since we all like to talk horses, how about a thread where it is not off-topic, but is THE topic?

A few of us thought it would be interesting and informative to have a chat thread where we can share ideas, ask for input from other horsemen, and talk about our riding and horse-keeping. We have a lot of different kinds of riders and horses, and a lot to share. In the last thread we had a great time and were a great help to each other working through lessons and training, horse lamenesses and illnesses, questions and challenges and always just our stories we like to tell.

I always have a link to this thread on my profile page, so if you have something to say and can't find the thread in latest posts… look for it there and wake the thread up!

I also have a ping list for horse threads that are of interest, and Becky pings everyone most mornings. Let Becky (Paynoattentionmanbehindthecurtain) and/or me know if you would like to be on the ping list. As FreeRepublic is a political site, our politics and other issues will probably blend in…. There are many issues for horsemen that touch politics… land use, animal rights/abuse cases that make the news…. Legislation that might affect horse owners.

So... like the last thread, this is intended as fun place to come and share stories, pictures, questions and chit-chat, unguided and unmoderated and that we come together here as friends. There are lots of ways of doing things and we all have our quirks, tricks and specialties that are neat to learn about.

It's 49 here today, and damp and chilly:(

41 and foggy this morning. Highs for the rest of the week around 50.

The leaves are near peak color right now.

The beautiful state of Nevada. I don't have the green pasture and lots of trees, but I can see forever and have mountains all around me.

Spent the morning cleaning up my flower garden. Took out all the stuff dead or dying. Looks rather bare, but alot neater. The rest should make it till the first frost now. Pictures in a while, (after Mack gets off his computer:)

I'll be looking forward to pictures. I really need to find the time to do the same. Working for a living really cuts into my time :) I have some many things I have to or want to do at home.

Yeah, I need to plant some trees. I say well I'll wait until hurricane season over and then until winter gone....

By the end of summer I've gotten a little weary of the upkeep. But the hard part of clean up is done now, getting the morning glories off the fence. They were still blooming pretty but the vines were getting all yellow an yucky looking. We were having to duck to get out the arbor too. I don't like that.

Nah, you shouldn't be ashamed. You work a full time job. I don't do anything much, just ask Mack:)

Are you quitting in Jan?

Hey, I don't have any one here anymore but Mack and I. Not much to manage. I've discovered since the kids left I"M the slob:), it wasn't the kids like I thought. So the only thing that needs to be managed around here is me.

Well I could be out planting in the evenings instead of on the computer. Oh and Eddie thinks nothing to do when I'm home either as he eats his supper and puts on his clean clothes. Heck, I even cleaned out his garage for him one day..:')

I knew you had a housefull. Just keeping JP one day a week wears me out. I don't even pick his toys up when he leaves, till the next day. Don't know how you do it.

Well I have to be getting out of here in about 15 minutes. We have a tracer on SL:') She was sold from the Dude ranch because it went out of business and no problems that he knew of. The guy that bought her has the address of the people that had her up until 4 years and going to contact them.

I want to check something else out too. I keep going over what I did differently and I remembered that the strap on the left that goes to my cinch was getting sharp edges where the holes were factory burnt. A chiropractor had showed us on another horse that they needed to be kept smooth and I had used clippers and trimmed the edges and smoothed what I could. I don't usually bump but squeeze to go. If I pressed a rough area just right could it have caused this because first she tried to turn right and I made her straighten and stand. As soon as I cued her with my legs she fought me taking a couple of steps then started?
