Pseudoephedrine, the main med in Sudafed, works great for my kids during the day but I can't give it to them at night. They act like, I don't know...hummingbirds on acid. I gave Pediacare Nighttime to my toddler for the first time last night. It dried him out enough to let him sleep, but he still had coughing spells through the night which kept ME up.

Garlic is great for colds, with the only unfortunate side effect being, what's the genteel word...increased flatulence. I must admit, I have made the dog get up and leave the room on occasion.

Net, isn't there some kind of juice that naturally and quickly clears up UTCs? For some reason I'm thinking its cranberry juice.

Yes! However, getting it into a four year old is next to impossible. She will do Cran-Apple but it is still a fight.

Plenty of water is actually the best. We have her urinate after baths and swimming. However, taking her sister out of the germ breeding ground of school has done wonders. Daddy came home with a cold and no one got it. I really think that the girls got a chance to build up their immunities without the constant exposure to other sick kids.
For two years (I'm not kidding), someone was always sick. Now it is a joy!

We use Benadryl at night.

For older children, above 90 lbs or so, a cough syrup with codeine works well at night. I do not know if this is OK for younger children. But my 12-year-old always gets hit in the lungs to the point where when he lies down, every breath is a cough. It really helps him. He hates it but wants it when he's really coughing.

If i have a bad cold or flu, I like Theraflu. The lemony flavored one. You drink the nasty hot stuff while FReeping, then climb into bed. You WILL sleep!
