there's a type of corn meal that I believe is self rising. Pour a small amount on the mound - they'll take it below and then die.

GRITS!
Worked for me while in South Carolina. No amount of chemical interference ever worked until I tried the grits. They take it below, eat it and it swells them up till they burst.
