American Lie
(Sung to the tune of "American Pie")
Adapted by Sturn Ruger, with apologies to Don McLean
A long long time ago
I can still remember how Murrow could be trusted
That was before CBS
Became shuch a mess
Before Dan Rather got busted.
But September made me shiver
With every newscast Dan delivered
Phony memos on the screen
Made me just want to scream
I can't remember if I sighed
When Dan told his bald-faced lies
But something touched me deep inside
The day the newsroom died
{Refrain} So bye-bye, big ol' CBS eye
Turned my set off, now I get off
On an internet high
And them poor old Dems were drinkin' whiskey and rye
Singin' this'll be the day that we die
This'll be the day that we die
Did you write the Air Guard docs
And do you know that bloggers really rock
If the TV tells you so
Do you believe it's so
Can the truth save your mortal soul
And will you watch them as they eat that crow
Well, I know that you believe in Dan
And I know that you've been a real big fan
You didn't think you had much to lose
But now you sing the media blues
I was from the Show Me State
And I wouln't buy that leftist hate
But all I could feel was pride
The day the newsroom died
I started singin'
{Refrain}
Now for fifty years they've been together in bed
The Democrats and the talkin' heads
But that's not how it used to be
When David Brinkley was the man to see
He told the truth most defininately
In a voice that spoke to you and me
Oh, and while the newsroom was falling down
The moguls spread their money around
The courtroom was adjourned
No verdict was returned
Lenin's useful fools were on a lark
As they came marching to the park
And lit their candles in the dark
The day the newsroom died
Almost brings a tear to my eye - NOT! LMAO!! :)
merican lie! No tickie, no laundry!
I've always been annoyed by non-American musicians (Elton John) writing songs telling me what it means to be American.
Put that to music and you might have a smash hit!
